09th November 2018: Many people confuse Veganism with Vegetarianism. Swinging between health trends and animal rights veganism differs from vegetarianism. Veganism is discarding all animal products including milk, egg, fabric like silk & wool and leather goods. Indian is ‘milkoholic’ so can Indians change their mindset and opt for veganism?
India has some religions which have a strong link with veganism. Religions like Buddhism and Jainism mostly prefer veganism. Vegetarianism is a diet while veganism is a lifestyle. Vegetarianism is because of health issues or religion but Veganism is more about political rights of animals to be protected under the same laws.
Actors like Amir Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut are following Veganism. Anushka Sharma follows Veganism and after marriage, even Virat Kohli is into it. Veganism is making its way in India and many people are liking it. Mostly the upper-class people are into it. It is picked by very choosy people in India who are willing to pay a lot.
The animal rights activists are working for the protective rights of the animals. They are spreading awareness about vegan food.
Veganism is not only going ecological but it also has health benefits. It lowers the risks of cancer, heart attack, and diabetes which are the major health issues in India. Veganism is also shifting of mindset. Indian market is not yet fully ready to accept veganism. Vegetarians are more in India and they are strict towards their rules but still, they are lacto - vegetarians. Dairy products cannot be abandoned all of a sudden in India. Brands which are accepting veganism and are applying it in their business are highly criticized in the market. Some states are accepting it but still, there is a lack of awareness in India about it.
Indians are the largest consumers of dairy products and so veganism in India is not impossible but definitely a questionable thought. Now the question arises are the Vegetarians really Vegetarians? Many vegetarians consume veg-eggs. Does that mean, the hen which laid those eggs was strictly following a vegetarian diet? Vegetarians really need to re-think about their diet before claiming themselves to be VEGETARIANS. They don’t consume meat but they do consume dairy products which do come from animals! Milk comes from animals. They use wool and silk which comes from animals! Even the leather products are made after killing animals! Can they really call themselves Vegetarians after all this? Are they really the vegetarians?
