Ashrafi Matcheswala has been appointed as General Manager at Vivanta by Taj – President, Mumbai on 7th December, 2016. She joins the Vivanta’s flagship hotel after completing a six-year stint as general manager at Taj Campton Place, San Francisco.

She embarked on her journey with the Taj Group as a catering assistant in 1981 at the Flagship Taj Mahal Palace and towers and has been with the company ever since.

During this association with Taj Group, she has held numerous key positions for 30 years including a position at Vivanta by Taj- President as F&B manager, The Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur and Taj Wellington News as general manager, Mumbai before moving to San Francisco to helm Taj Campton place.  Machteswala is renowned for her qualities in supporting and inspiring her team to carry out their responsibilities with passion and flair.

She has an MBA from Swiss Hotel Association’s Les Roches School of Hotel Management in Switzerland and attended a Cornell University sponsored Hotel Management Program in Mumbai.

She worked her way through the management ranks, eventually heading the food and beverage department for the Taj President. She was part of the 1991 opening management team for Taj Exotica in Goa, then returned to the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower before taking her first resident manager position at Taj Lands End in Mumbai.

She was promoted to general manager at Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur in 2005, increasing its awareness in the international market as well as launching their holistic Ayurveda Jiva Grand Spa. At Taj Wellington Mews, Matcheswala oversaw the construction of the only helipad atop a residential building in Mumbai.

With a career spanning over 35 years, Matcheswala has emerged as an oriented leader with excellent customer relations. She is renowned and beloved for her qualities in supporting and inspiring her team to carry out their responsibilities with passion and flair. Her allegiance towards the Taj Group has made her an indispensable part of the Taj success story.
