National, October 2025: Glenmorangie Highland single malt Scotch whisky has reimagined its smooth, luscious flagship, The Original, to make it more delicious than ever. The Distillery’s whisky creators, renowned for their endless imagination, concluded through years of experiments that their signature whisky’s flavours became even more delectable when aged for 12 years instead of 10.
To mark this milestone, Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks at The Glenmorangie Company, will be visiting India this October - his first visit in six years. His return celebrates the unveiling of the Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old, a richer, creamier, and more complex evolution of the iconic 10-Year-Old expression.

Shared worldwide to delight whisky lovers old and new, the newGlenmorangie Original 12 Years Oldis silkier, creamier, and more complex, catapulting the single malt’s much-loved notes of orange, honey, vanilla, and peach to a new pinnacle of flavour. Its wondrous taste has already been recognised with a covetedgold medal at the World Whiskies Awards 2024.
For 180 years, Glenmorangie’s whisky makers have pursued deliciousness with boundless curiosity. They craft their delicate, fruity spirit in stills as tall as a giraffe, the tallest in Scotland, giving more space for taste and aroma to form. Then they age it in only the finest casks.The Originalhas long epitomised this house style, standing as Glenmorangie’s flagship expression. But the Whisky Creation Team, guided by their spirit of innovation, began to wonder whether the whisky could be made even more of a joy to drink.
Through a series of tastings and trials, they discovered that The Original gained extra silkiness, sweetness, and depth when given an additional two years of maturation. The decision was clear: share this reimagined flagship with whisky lovers worldwide.
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Distillation, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks, reflects, “In 1984, when I was studying for my PhD in Edinburgh, I tasted single malt Scotch whisky for the very first time. That whisky was Glenmorangie. I’ll never forget that magical sip and how I became beguiled by its complex flavours. Throughout my years at Glenmorangie, I’ve always strived to keep the whisky true to that memory. Recently, my team and I asked ourselves whether we could reimagine The Original for even more deliciousness. The result is The Original 12 Years Old - smoother, creamier, and more complex. It’s as though we’ve taken the classic notes of orange, vanilla, peach and honey and ‘turned up the volume’.”
