Plastic waste Free company - Dabur
Dabur India Ltd is one of the leading FMCG company in India, the company has set its sight on becoming a plastic waste-free company by the end of March 2021 by collecting, processing and recycling 20 million kgs of post-consumer plastic waste from across the country with this, the company would be collecting back 100% of the plastic waste that it generates through its product packaging making it amongst the first Indian FMCG companies to achieve this feat.
The company has 20 states of the art manufacturing facilities spread across the globe. For this project, Dabur has initially targeted six states, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand, Delhi and Punjab and has now decided to extend this Plastic Waste Management initiative to 25 states in 2019-20 fiscal and collect 12,400 MT or 124 lakh kg plastic waste and send them for the recycling process. This would be further hiked to 20,000 MT or 200 lakh kgs in 2020-21 with this the company will collect back 100% of the plastic waste generated by our packaging by March 2021 making company a plastic waste-free company.
“It's an ambitious target but we have already started working towards it we rolled out this pilot plastic recycling initiative last year in six states. The fiscal year 2018-19 was the first full year of its roll out and we have collected, processed and recycled nearly 4,000 MT or four million kgs of post-consumer plastic waste from these six states, Dabur India CEO Mohit Malhotra”.
Dabur is working with nearly 5000 ragpickers across six states to collect all types of plastic wastes which are recyclable and non-recyclable under this initiative. The collected plastic waste is sent to diverse recycles. Waste to energy and Cement plants through several agencies registered with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). While helping to collect and process plastic waste, on the one hand, Dabur has also been working towards increasing awareness and involving the community in this drive. It has been working with school children and educating them about various types of waste and benefits of severing them at the source. It has also put in place initiatives to develop the livelihood & health of local ragpickers and waste collectors.
