Cake Mixing Ceremony at Crowne Plaza Kochi

Heralding the festive season that is just around the corner, Crowne Plaza Kochi held its Cake Mixing ceremony on the 10th of October, 2023.

Dating back to the 17th century, the cake mixing ceremony has its roots in history, where the event marks the beginning of the harvest season. Fruits and nuts that were harvested are prepared to be used in the making of the traditional plum cake, and some of it is often saved for the coming year in the hope of another abundant harvest.

Keeping in the spirit of the cake mixing ceremony, which was traditionally a close-knit affair, Crowne Plaza Kochi hosted its 11th Cake Mixing ceremony. This event was attended by guests and colleagues who enthusiastically participated in the mixing, donning aprons and Christmas caps.

Approximately 5,000 kilograms of dried fruits and nuts were not merely heaped on the table but were carefully laid out in colorful combinations and shapes, which included the finest white and black raisins from Afghanistan, topped with powdered cloves, cardamom, ginger peel, orange peel, and other exotic spices. Additionally, 150 liters of red wine and more than 100 liters of honey were used during the mixing process.

The event commenced with the General Manager, Mr. Dinesh Rai, welcoming the guests, followed by Executive Chef Kalesh explaining the process and the quality of ingredients used in the cake. The event was attended by corporate figures, high-net-worth individuals from Kochi, patrons of the hotel, and in-house guests.

Notable figures, including actors Swasika and Kerala Blasters football team captain Luna, also participated in the mixing along with other guests.

The hotel also unveiled its rebranded Cake Box named "Euphoria from the House of Aroma." Over the past decade, we have been delivering our Christmas plum cakes throughout India, which has become a brand in itself. Therefore, we decided to name it "Euphoria," which translates to joy, cheer, and happiness, reflecting what we bring to all through our Christmas cakes, as mentioned by the General Manager, Mr. Dinesh Rai.

The mixture will be taken in the first week of December, which is 60 days after the mixing, and added to the dough to bake delicious plum cakes.

From the mixed and preserved ingredients, the hotel plans to bake 10,000 rich plum cakes this year and has already begun accepting bookings, according to the Director of Sales, Mr. Tittu Koikkaran.
