In the last decade or so, a number of speciality restaurants have popped up to deliver the tastes of that land to the citizens of Mumbai. When it comes to Awadhi cuisine, the only luxurious place to dine at remains Ummrao at Courtyard by Marriott, Mumbai.
As the guardian of India’s royal cuisine, Ummrao maintains the supremacy and tradition in its taste while being an ultra-modern Nawabi Dastarkhan. Whether it’s a ruhani Iftar celebration meal or you’re simply taking your guests out for a feast of royal finesse, this inviting spot showcases Awadhi spices and mouth-watering dishes from the region that are sure to thrill the palate. The curator credit goes to the team of chefs and a new introduction is Chef Saddam as the Senior Sous Chef who’s immensely passionate about cooking, to say the least.
Chef Saddam comes with over 12 years of experience in the culinary industry, having previously worked with Lemon Tree Patna, JW Kolkata, The Westin Kolkata and ITC Windsor Bangalore. He excels in cuisines like Mughlai, Awadhi, Wazwan and Nizami and focuses on tandoor and curry dishes, one of the specialities of the new chef. His best dishes include Suja Makhani, Dum Pukht and other tandoor offerings like kebabs and its variations. Melding the Awadhi culinary traditions with artful plating and sensorial elements, Ummrao is not just a place to eat, it’s an experience.
