Delhi: Ask 'genie' to deliver food at IGI T3 boarding gate

There’s good news for passengers travelling through Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. A unique “Food Genie” service has been launched, which allows them to order through interactive self-ordering kiosks and get food of their choice near their boarding gates. Now, passengers will not have to remain hungry with the fear of missing their flights or arriving late to the departure area.

This first of its kind facility allows passengers to order food through kiosks from multiple food and beverage (F&B) outlets at the respective food courts at T-3’s Domestic and International departures.

An official said that the food is delivered by personnel on electric scooters at designated pick-up points for passengers to collect it in up to 20 minutes. When a passenger places the order at any of these kiosks that are placed near the boarding area, he/she is informed about the nearest pick-up point to their boarding gate, so that it becomes convenient for them to collect the food that they have ordered.

According to a senior airport official, passengers can enjoy food at the piers while waiting to board the aircraft, or carry the packed food with them into the plane.

“Food Genie service would be beneficial for passengers, who have reached the departure piers and want to have food of their choice without even going to the food court. Many passengers tend to proceed straight to the departure gates and skip eating a meal at the food outlets. The facility would help such passengers satiate their hunger pangs without the fear of missing their flight,” an airport official said.

“The service will also save them from the hassles of visiting various outlets and making payments separately. Using the same kiosk, food can be ordered from multiple outlets,” the official added.

For the convenience of passengers, the airport authorities have set up interactive self-ordering kiosks at strategic locations. Also, 24x7 assistance to help passenger order their food is available at the kiosks and designated pick-up points. “Once an order is placed, passenger is updated about the various stages of food delivery through SMS, like order confirmation, food getting ready and delivery at the pick-up points,” the official further said.

He added that they will soon be extending this facility to the other terminals as well. “The number of kiosks can also be increased depending on the response the facility gets in the first fortnight.”
