Dineout piloting differential pricing

Dineout is piloting differential menu pricing and in-restaurant food ordering, as it looks to expand its product offering beyond deal discovery, table reservations, and in-restaurant payments.

“The biggest problem the restaurant industry faces is that they still don’t recognise any customer walking into the restaurant and hence, there is no opportunity to personalise the experience,” said cofounder Sahil Jain.

The company’s differentiation lies in its fullstack approach to cater to restaurants, he said. The company services restaurants through its CRM inResto and addresses the B2C side via its consumer app.

This includes differential pricing at the menu item level, depending on the time of the day, day of the week and personalised offers for the end consumers depending on their tastes. Dineout currently has over 2.5 million diners on its consumer platform.

Dineout is owned by Times Internet, a part of the Times Group which also handles this site.

The company, which competes with Zomato and LimeTray in certain business offerings, also said it plans to expand to Indonesia and the Philippines. It has already started operating across the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and East Africa.

In India, it is looking to expand to smaller towns and cities including Lucknow, Indore and Surat.

Dineout processes an annual gross transaction value of $1 billion, which is about 1% of the overall organised restaurant industry.

The company is looking to scale up by 10 times in the next 18 months.

The company, which has grown to seating 12 million diners annually and 15,000 restaurants on its platform, has seen a ten-fold growth over the last two years, said Ankit Mehrotra, CEO.“We are on track to seat 40 million diners . Across our B2C and B2B platforms (inResto and Torqus) we processs about 10 million diners on a monthly basis,” he said.
