Fresh air makes the guest feel good

Hospitality Lexis had a conversation with the Executive Housekeeper Laxman Singh about the housekeeping services in Radisson Blu Goa

Hospitality Lexis/ Print edition December 2019

Investing in housekeeping operations and establishing strict quality standards, can set a clear division between us and our competitors. Good housekeeping can provide a sure-fire way to gain the edge, enhance the guest experience and improve our bottom line. Guest names should be omitted from the cleaning list assigned to housekeepers.

We train employees to always close and lock the guestroom door post-cleaning a guestroom or visiting a housekeeping trolley to retrieve more supplies. Also, insist that all connecting doors and windows are closed and locked before leaving the room; remember the comfort and privacy of the guests always come first.

We follow appropriate procedures while entering the guest rooms. We enable cleaning the premises or rooms in the least destructive and disturbing manner and work towards the guests’ satisfaction. We enhance the guest experience by abiding by certain levels of privacy requests made by guests.

Conserving water is closely tied to a sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using floor scrubbers, we use floor-cleaning machines or sustainable cleaning tool to conserve water. This in turn also helps minimizes the usage of chemical products.

We ensure guests enjoy cleaner indoor air, the natural way by putting plants inside the premises. Plants can expertly minimize indoor air pollution. They do the job excellently by producing plenty of sustainable oxygen in the area.

Investing a little or more time in motivating the housekeeping team is the raw material of personal energy that makes every employee and the organization successful. We praise the teammates for their ‘strong’ points and reward them publicly.

Emphasize the importance of taking breaks and bring in temporary help to support your team during peak workloads. Maintaining a sense of humour and friendly relationship with the staff does help as well. We facilitate activities for better engagement and interpersonal relationship amongst team member.

Competitions, ice-breakers carried out at the work stations are also encouraged. We help motivate the team members’ performance via guests’ feedback and social media recognition.
