Hike in people going for Haj

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has announced that this year around two lakh Indian will be doing teh Haj Pilgrimage. Last year they were the second-highest to do so after Indonesia. The pilgrimage will be held in July and August. After the process of withdrawing the names was done, around 18,000 to 20,000 people will be going from Mumbai, said, Maqsood Ahmed Khan. CEO, Haj Committee. 

Ease of doing Haj was a campaign which was started and under that this year the process went completely digital. “We had received around 2.67 lakh applications this year, of which two lakh were selected. About 1.23 lakhs people will go through the Haj Committee and the rest through Haj Group organisers,” said Naqvi. He even informed that India is the first country in the entire world which has made the entire Haj process digital. 

Around 2100 women are going to Haj this year with a male companion. This has started two years after the Saudi Government has allowed women above 45 years to go on Haj with a male in a group of at least 4. This year out of 550 trainers going along with the pilgrims, 15 % are women.
