Mumbai: Year after year, when Onam arrives, connoisseurs of authentic Kerala cuisine know exactly where to go — South of Vindhyas (SOV) at The Orchid Hotel, Mumbai. Revered as one of the city’s most beloved South Indian dining destinations, SOV has built a legacy of celebrating Onam in its truest, most traditional form. This year, from 3rd to 7th September 2025, the tradition continues with an opulent 56-dish Onam Sadhya buffet, a spread that embodies the spirit, warmth, and generosity of Kerala’s grand harvest festival.
A Feast Worthy of Royalty Laid out in grand buffet style, the Sadhya unfolds like a culinary epic, each dish a chapter steeped in centuries-old tradition. The journey begins with irresistible festive starters — crisp upperi (banana chips), golden jackfruit chips, airy coconut-flavoured achappam, and the sweet nostalgia of unniappam. From there, the spread blossoms with a colourful palette of chutneys, tangy pachadis, and vibrant pickles, leading into the heart of Kerala’s flavours: creamy avial, coconut milk-scented olan, the golden warmth of erissery, and the tangy-spice of mango curry.
The Sadhya flows on with comforting Kerala red rice, lacy appams, flaky Malabari parathas, and delicately flavoured lemon and coconut sevai, each cooked in authentic methods and tradition that has never lost its soul. And then comes the royal finale, a sweet procession of ada pradhamam, golden nei payasam, pal payasam, jewel-toned Kozhikodan halwa, and traditional indulgences like pazham puri and panchamrutham, crafted with gentle care and true authenticity.
An Experience Beyond the Plate Within South of Vindhyas’ warm, wood-accented interiors, festooned with fresh floral garlands and the gentle hum of traditional Kerala music, guests are transported straight to God’s Own Country. Every element, from the aroma of simmering coconut gravies to the generous hospitality, reflects the spirit of Onam: abundance, community, and shared joy.
The Chef’s Touch “As much as Onam is about food, it’s about emotions,” shares Masterchef Bala Subramanian. “The Sadhya is a story told through flavours, of the land, its bounty, and its people. We’ve honoured every recipe with patience, care, and the authenticity it deserves, so every bite feels like a celebration of Kerala itself.”
This Onam, step into a feast that is not just eaten, but experienced, a regal buffet of 56 treasures, prepared with love, tradition, and the spirit of a festival that has stood the test of time.
