- A high energy dining destination celebrating unapologetic Sichuan and Cantonese flavours with show-stopping flair.
Mumbai, June 2025 Nestled within Fairmont Mumbai, Oryn emerges as a idden gem that redefines dining through the glamour and celebration of 1920s Shanghai’s cinematic charm. A destination where culinary artistry and immersive storytelling converge, Oryn invites guests into a world of bold flavours, timeless elegance, and unforgettable experiences.
Oryn is more than a restaurant; it is a living narrative, a sultry, cinematic escape that transports guests to the golden age of Shanghai cinema, where glamour, intrigue, and storytelling reigned supreme. The name ‘Oryn’ evokes exclusivity, rarity, and the allure of the extraordinary, a perfect reflection of the destination’s distinctive spirit.
A Theatrical Culinary Experience
At Oryn, dining is not merely a meal, it is a multisensory performance, where tradition and innovation meet in a refined, theatrical expression of Chinese culinary artistry. Rooted in the unapologetic, time-honoured flavours of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine, each dish arrives with a flourish smoking, sizzling, stirring the senses, and sparking conversation.
The menu is a contemporary homage to heritage, celebrating the nuanced complexity of fermented pastes, the warmth of aged spices, and the brightness of seasonal produce. Signature creations like Oryn Chicken, elevated with preserved peppers, and the exquisitely carved Peking Duck presented tableside, reflect the balance of drama and detail that defines the experience. Dim Sum is reimagined as artful indulgence — Imperial Seafood Siu Mai with Caviar presents a decadent trio of prawn, scallop, and chicken, crowned with caviar in a nod to the golden age. Crispy Duck with Pancakes and Hoisin, a Shanghai-style fried duck carved tableside and served with soft pancakes, relishes, and hoisin, offers an immersive performance in taste and tradition. Smoked Chili Pomfret with Shaoxing Wine pairs crisp fillets with smoky chili, aged wine, and caramelised onions, capturing the soul of classic technique.
Connection is at the heart of the table. Designed for sharing, the menu encourages guests to linger, explore, and savour the evolving layers of heat, umami, and aromatic depth.
To complement this culinary journey, Oryn’s bespoke cocktail program draws inspiration from Wu Xing (五行) — the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each cocktail mirrors this elemental balance:
-
Fresh Bloom (Water + Wood): Martell V.S, Cinzano Rosso, Maple, Shiitake-Soy Soda
-
Quiet Flame (Wood + Fire): Toasted Sesame Jim Beam, Fino Sherry, Sichuan Peanut Butter, Green Apple, Milk
-
Buried Ore (Earth + Metal): Barsol Pisco, Campari, Cold Brew, Caramelised Pear, Cinnamon, Milk
-
Peking Duck (Metal + Water): Duck Fat-Washed Bourbon, Plum, Falernum, Ginger, Hoisin, Lime
“At Oryn, flavour takes centre stage — unapologetic, intricate, and deeply expressive. We draw from the intensity of Sichuan, the elegance of Cantonese, and the cadence of fire and smoke to create dishes that don’t just satisfy, but provoke. It’s a choreography of taste and texture, designed to spark emotion as much as appetite.”

Ambience & Artistry: A Theatrical Space by P49 and Ms. Venu Juneja
Oryn’s interiors are a masterclass in theatrical design and cultural storytelling, crafted by visionary P49 Studio and enriched by Ms. Venu Juneja’s evocative art installations. The space conjures the vibrancy and opulence of 1920s Shanghai, blending maroon velvet drapes reminiscent of velvet curtain calls, gilded accents, and vintage cinema memorabilia inspired by the travelling bioscopes and picture houses of the era. This rich tapestry pays tribute to the cultural renaissance of 1920s Shanghai an era where spectacle was both a visual art and a grand celebration.
Ms. Juneja’s art embroidered cranes, koi fish, clouds, and a majestic wire-mesh dragon adorned with hand-woven beads weaves poetic layers of memory and myth into the fabric of the space. Authentic Asian elements such as vintage tiffin boxes and silk knots further celebrate the communal essence of Chinese dining, turning Oryn into a living, breathing tale of history and artistry.
Beyond Oryn: The Glasshouse
Beyond Oryn lies a serene indoor glasshouse terrace, a lush sanctuary overlooking the airport runway and a poetic gateway to new journeys. This intimate space is designed for private celebrations and quiet reflection, perfectly complementing the vibrant energy of the main dining room.
By night, Oryn transforms into an electric hub of celebration, where moody lighting and live DJs amplify the dynamic ambience inviting guests to lose themselves in the glamour and revelry of a bygone era reimagined.
Oryn is more than a dining venue; it is a cinematic journey, a celebration of boldness, elegance, and storytelling. Every element, from its dramatic interiors to its masterful cuisine and inspired cocktails, reflects the spirit of Shanghai’s golden age.
