Pune - As Ganesh Chaturthi unfolds, Fort Jadhavgadh, Maharashtra’s only fort heritage hotel, is embracing the festival with grand celebrations in true Marathmola style. Central to the festivities is the historic Ganapati Mandir within the fort, a revered religious site dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Built over 300 years ago, the temple holds a significant place in the hearts of the local community and visitors alike, and is currently the focal point of ongoing Ganesh Utsav activities.
The Ganapati Mandir, a cornerstone of Fort Jadhavgadh's spiritual and cultural heritage, was established during the early phases of the fort’s history by the Maratha chieftain Subedar Pilajirao Jadhavrao . The temple is deeply revered for its role in local religious practices, serving as a beacon of faith and spiritual solace. Devotees visit the Ganapati Mandir to seek Lord Ganesha's blessings, believing that the deity removes obstacles and brings wisdom and prosperity into their lives. This year, a special mandap has been set up around the historic temple, accompanied by dhol preparations to welcome Ganpati Bappa with grandeur. The temple’s ancient architecture, with its intricate carvings and traditional Maratha style, reflects the artistic and spiritual sensibilities of the era.
For this year Fort Jadhavgadh is celebrating with an eco - friendly Ganpati idol. It is crafted from natural Shadu mati (soil/clay), water, sawdust, and wooden planks, and is designed to be entirely harmless to the environment. The idol is meticulously molded and detailed using natural colors and biodegradable decorations. This sustainable approach ensures that the idols can be immersed at home without causing any pollution, showcasing our commitment to preserving nature while honoring tradition.
Subedar Pilajirao Jadhavrao , a prominent leader of the Maratha Empire, played a crucial role in fortifying and expanding the empire’s influence during the late 17th century. The Ganapati Mandir stands as a symbol of his dedication to both spiritual and strategic endeavours. The temple continues to be a vital part of the community’s religious life, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi, when its historical and spiritual significance is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
