Surat, March: Surat Marriott’s All-day dining restaurant Table 101 hosted a Parsi food festival for 10 days that celebrated Parsi cuisine from 14th -23rd March which also included a Navroz special Sunday brunch on 23rd March.
Parsi community has been an integral part of Surat and neighbouring regions for decades, however, there is very little to no representation of Parsi food in Surat’s foodscape. Surat Marriott had hosted a smaller version of Parsi food festival of 3 days in September 2024 and the hotel experienced a huge turnout from food lovers. Basis this overwhelming response from guests, the hotel planned for a Parsi food festival again, this time on a larger scale. Food enthusiasts from Surat once again showered love on the hotel, with guests visiting the hotel not just from Surat but also from the neighbouring regions of Navsari, Valsad and Dahanu.
Some of the dishes served were the classic Dhansak, Salli boti, Patrani Macchi, Tarela jhinga, Kid gosht, Prawns Pulao and Lagan nu custard.
Parsi cuisine originates from Persia. After the Parsis migrated to the coast of Gujarat, they brought along traditional Iranian flavours with their food which majorly consisted of stews, meats, dry fruits and nuts. Further, fish was added to their diet after coming to India, thus making Parsi cuisine a melting pot of flavours.
Cluster Director of F&B, Chef Sunil Gangwal commented, “The city of Surat has a limited number of establishments that serve authentic Parsi food. We identified this gap and collaborated with Parsi home cooks from Surat to design the menus and to even cook few signature dishes alongside our culinary team. The result was a standout offering of Parsi flavours found in the kitchens of a Parsi household, coupled with world class hospitality standards of Marriott.”
