PHUKET, THAILAND: Rising quietly along Kamala’s evergreen hillsides, The Residences at InterContinental Phuket Resort unveils a refreshing architectural perspective for contemporary Asian living — one where paradise is not performed, but lived. Conceived as “The Edge of Heaven,” the addition of the residences completes the resort’s trilogy inspired by the ancient Tribhumikatha cosmology: the hotel as the Heart of Heaven, the Emerald Pool and gardens as the Garden of Heaven, and the residences as the Far East Paradise - where everyday life is elevated beyond the ordinary.
The project is developed by Proud Real Estate Public Company Limited and designed by Habita Architects, a Bangkok-based studio behind the award-winning InterContinental Phuket Resort. Renowned for their refined, context-driven approach, Habita Architects were tasked not merely with creating an extension of the resort, but with shaping an entirely new emotional landscape for long-term living.

A Transformation from Resort Energy to Residential Sanctuary
The defining gesture of the masterplan is the moment residents transition from the resort into their private realm — a subtle but purposeful shift in atmosphere that signals the beginning of home. “The arrival home was designed to feel like a gentle passage from the ethereal into the familiar — where calm begins and the rhythm of daily living takes over,” shares the design team. This transition sets the tone for the entire development: stepped-cornered building forms that soften the silhouette, warmer materials underfoot and at touchpoints, and circulation spaces composed for stillness rather than spectacle. The architecture slows the pace, inviting residents to move from a world of discovery into one of belonging.

Interpreting Paradise for Everyday Living
While the resort embodies a design narrative grounded in Thainess, the residences reinterpret the idea of paradise as quiet balance. The architecture becomes a modern reimagining of Phuket’s Sino-European and Peranakan heritage, with distinctive rhythmically recessed corners and ventilated façades that echo the island’s historic shophouses while embracing contemporary elegance. Crafted timber tones, finely textured surfaces and clean, contemporary proportions create a home that feels rooted in place yet universally timeless. Design cues such as Peranakan arches, ventilator patterns, rhythmic colonnades and softened stepped corners subtly reinforce these influences while keeping the overall expression modern and refined.

- A spacious two-bedroom living area designed with layered textures, natural materials and a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining and lounge spaces.
Inside the residences, PIA Interior extends the story “where the rivers of heaven converge”, blending inspiration from the mythical Himmapan Forest with Peranakan artistry and Sino-European sophistication. Thai colour tones, subtly referenced from traditional paintings and historic maps of Anodard Pond found in Ayutthaya and Thonburi-era manuscripts, give the interiors a warmth that feels both cultured and calm. Natural light and cross-ventilation shape each residence, creating an atmosphere that shifts throughout the day — a living rhythm unique to the site. “These are homes designed to be felt — gracious, warm, and connected to their landscape,” the design team notes.

Inspired by Local Craft, Climate, and Cultural Heritage
The architecture and interiors are anchored by a landscape concept that places the residences at the edge of the Himmapan Forest — the mythical boundary between heaven and earth. Designed by PLA Landscape, the gardens weave sacred plants of the three worlds (Pañcaputtha) with local flora to create a lush, symbolic environment that reflects the cosmology behind the resort.
The landscape is imagined as a “secret garden of Himmapan”, divided into scenes inspired by four mythical guardians — Kraison Siha, the majestic lion of might; the Winged Steed, carrying winds of change; Nok Karawik, whose melodic song calms the forest; and Matcha Whan, the leviathan of the sacred waters. Their characters inform different pockets of planting, shade and movement, giving the outdoor spaces a quiet narrative depth.
Every detailing choice responds to Phuket’s tropical climate and artisanal traditions: perforated screens provide both character and ventilation; recessed corners filter sunlight into soft patterns; and materials are selected to age gracefully, reinforcing the residences’ long-term character.
Along a coastline often defined by visually bold architecture, the residences take a restrained approach. Natural tones, greenery-softened façades and elegant proportions allow the structures to blend into Kamala’s hillsides, projecting a sense of quiet confidence.

- The Paradise Garden Court frames a tranquil pathway with layered greenery and refined landscaping, offering residents a peaceful garden retreat.
At the heart of the development is the Paradise Garden Court, a central green sanctuary framed by mountains and sea. It serves as the physical and emotional core of the residences — a place to pause, gather and reconnect. At its centre stands the Sala Pavilion, a distilled expression of the project’s spirit where nature, heritage and contemporary elegance converge.
The Residences at InterContinental Phuket Resort bring together three of Thailand’s most respected design studios, each contributing a unique layer of artistry: Habita Architects for architectural design, PLA Landscape for landscape design, and PIA Interior for interior design. Their shared vision is a sanctuary where architecture, gardens and interiors feel seamlessly connected — a meaningful home where structure, nature and interior life speak the same emotional language. For this project, that language is calm.
