Mumbai, 3rd June 2025: This World Environment Day, ITC Maratha, Mumbai, stands as a beacon of sustainable luxury, where indulgence meets environmental responsibility. A proud part of ITC Hotels, one of the world’s largest and greenest hotel chains, ITC Maratha has been awarded the prestigious LEED Zero Carbon Certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). It has also received the LEED Zero Water Certification this March, placing it among a select global league of properties truly committed to a planet-positive future. ITC Hotels is one of the first largest and greenest hotel chains in the world to receive the maximum number of LEED Platinum Certification properties as per the US Green Building Council.
Over the past decade, sustainability has moved from concept to core at ITC Maratha. From thoughtfully designed Green Banquets and carbon-neutral meetings, to zero-mile initiatives like Sunya Aqua, with water which is purified and bottled on-site, the hotel ensures every guest experience contributes to environmental well-being.
The hotel sources organic, local ingredients for its menus, cuts food miles, and partners with farmers through the Local Love program. Its kitchens are powered in part by an on-site biogas plant that diverts over 100,000 kg of organic waste from Mumbai’s landfills every year.
With over 80% of energy coming from renewable sources, including off-site wind farms, and 100% rainwater harvesting, ITC Maratha demonstrates how heritage and modern sustainability can coexist. It uses 47% less water than the USGBC benchmark for large luxury hotels, and its advanced water filtration systems reduce wastage by 70%.
The hotel has also eliminated single-use plastics, replacing them with biodegradable and eco-conscious alternatives, from bamboo toothbrushes to wooden cutlery.
Even the air you breathe here is cleaner. ITC Maratha provides 30% more fresh air than required by global indoor air standards, and its commitment to cultivating native plants enhances biodiversity while cooling urban temperatures. This World Environment Day, ITC Maratha proves that sustainability isn’t just an add-on, it’s a way of life. As the city buzzes with celebration, this landmark property quietly continues its mission: luxury with purpose, comfort with conscience.
