June 2025: Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island has been named a winner of the prestigious 2025 International Sustainability Awards, in recognition of its pioneering efforts in integrating eco-conscious practices within luxury hospitality.
This award honours their ongoing commitment to redefining sustainable travel through innovation, guest engagement, and community-driven initiatives. From zero-plastic operations and in-house water bottling to an advanced food waste management system, every initiative reflects the team’s dedication to environmental responsibility and excellence in guest experience.
“We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition,” said Fabien Chesnais, General Manager, Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island. “It reflects our team’s unwavering passion for purposeful hospitality and our belief that luxury and sustainability can coexist seamlessly.”
Nestled on a pristine beachfront in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, the resort has made significant strides in its sustainability journey. It operates with a zero-plastic policy, having eliminated single-use plastics entirely through an in-house bottling system that uses reusable glass bottles. In tackling food waste, the resort’s SYKER digester has processed over 13,000 kilograms of waste, offsetting an impressive 32.9 tons of CO₂ emissions in just two months.
Guests are encouraged to be part of the mission through initiatives like ‘Stay Green’ and ‘Skip the Clean,’ which offer loyalty points for supporting sustainable practices. The resort also engages actively with the local community through beach clean-ups, partnerships with the UAE Food Bank, tree planting drives, the annual Kilo of Kindness campaign, and inclusive hiring practices. These efforts are tracked through Accor’s GAIA2 platform, ensuring measurable impact across key sustainability metrics including food waste, water usage and carbon emissions.
In recognition of the achievement, Alexander Chetchikov, CEO of Luxury Lifestyle Awards and President of the World Luxury Chamber of Commerce, remarked, “Mövenpick exemplifies what modern luxury should represent purpose, innovation and impact. Their sustainability efforts are not only operationally impressive but also emotionally meaningful. We’re proud to honour them for their leadership in creating a more sustainable future for global hospitality.”
The award is a testament to their vision of purposeful luxury and a more responsible future in hospitality. As we continue this journey, the resort is committed to expanding efforts with sensor-based room enhancements, new educational programs and impactful community initiatives.
Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island remains dedicated to being a resort where sustainability is not just a practice, but a promise.
