Nestled in a pristine atoll, Six Senses Laamu is dedicated to safeguarding the Maldives’ rich marine biodiversity. The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) brings together marine biologists and global conservation organizations like the Manta Trust, Blue Marine Foundation, and the Olive Ridley Project to research and protect marine life. Guests can snorkel with resident biologists on the vibrant house reef, explore the Sea Hub of Environmental Learning (SHELL) through immersive exhibits, or kayak through mangroves, spotting baby sharks and herons in protected marine areas. Those visiting at the right time may even witness the rare phenomenon of coral spawning, a testament to the resilience of ocean ecosystems.

At Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, coral conservation takes center stage. In collaboration with the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang, the resort has launched an extensive coral propagation program. By transplanting coral fragments onto artificial reef structures, the team fosters marine biodiversity and enhances the resilience of fragile coral species. In 2023 alone, 474 coral fragments were successfully transplanted, supporting the regeneration of vibrant reef ecosystems. Beyond marine conservation, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay also champions water accessibility, providing filtration systems to local schools and saving over 12,000 plastic bottles monthly through its reverse osmosis plant. Guests can take part in beach clean-ups or explore the biologically diverse coral reefs just steps from the shore.

Surrounded by dramatic fjords and the azure waters of the Gulf of Oman, Six Senses Zighy Bay is home to an array of marine species, including the endangered Green Turtle. In partnership with the Olive Ridley Project, the resort actively researches sea turtle habitats and works to eliminate ocean threats such as ghost nets. In 2023, the team successfully removed 11 ghost nets and over 1,000 kilograms of ocean waste. Additionally, an ambitious coral replenishment initiative is underway, with over 522 coral fragments placed on the house reef, showing significant growth and resilience. Guests can take part in turtle talks, snorkeling excursions, or hands-on coral restoration activities, ensuring their stay contributes to the rejuvenation of the region’s marine life.

Six Senses Resorts Spas invites travelers to not only experience the serenity of these stunning destinations but also to play a role in their conservation. By choosing responsible travel, guests become part of a movement that safeguards the planet’s most precious ecosystems for future generations.
