The Orchid Hotel Mumbai Celebrates Another Year of Eco-Friendly Ganpati Utsav with Innovative Sustainable Practices

Mumbai: As the vibrant festival of Ganpati Utsav returns, The Orchid Hotel Mumbai is thrilled to usher in another year of eco-conscious celebrations. Known for its pioneering role as Asia’s first ecotel, the hotel is always at the forefront of sustainable hospitality, infusing the festival with innovative and environmentally friendly practices. This year’s festivities are set to captivate guests with an impressive array of creations made entirely from recycled materials, reflecting the hotel’s unwavering commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while celebrating this beloved festival.

This year’s Ganpati Utsav at The Orchid Mumbai highlights the hotel's ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact while honoring the festival. The setup incorporates a variety of repurposed materials, reflecting the brand’s ethos of recycling, reusing, and reducing. Plastic bottles and bottle caps have been artfully used throughout the decorations, while old bed sheets and paper boxes are creatively transformed into functional and decorative elements. Coconut shells, along with scrap materials such as nails, rods, and iron pattis, have been ingeniously repurposed to form unique and striking features. Notably, the globe displayed is crafted from reused plywood and old bed sheets, showcasing the hotel’s commitment to sustainable design.

“One of the highlights of this year’s celebration is the use of recycled plastic bottles as planters, prominently placed on the ganpati backdrop. The structure of the mouse (Undir Mama) is constructed from used bottle lids, offering a fresh perspective on upcycling. Additionally, the Ganpati idol, made from shadu (natural clay), will be immersed in water during Visarjan. This water will then be used as fertilizer for the hotel's in-house plantations, reinforcing the hotel's dedication to minimizing waste and promoting environmental sustainability. Non-toxic colors are used to add vibrant finishes while ensuring ecological safety,”

The hotel continues to lead by example, integrating eco-friendly practices into its celebrations and everyday operations. This year's Ganpati Utsav is a testament to the hotel’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable hospitality.
