House of Mandarin, the authentic Chinese restaurant, that has long since become a landmark in Bandra is much-loved by the community for its bona fide flavours, ever-intriguing ambiance and wholesome dining experience. With the success of their first outpost, they are now ready to venture out and present their soulful hospitality to the upscale neighbourhood of Powai.
Amidst the numerous Asian fusion restaurants that have popped open across the country, House of Mandarin stays true to its nature and pays homage to the glorious ancestry of Chinese food in India. It offers a premium casual authentic Chinese dining experience unlike any other.
With the use of oriental ingredients and traditional cooking methods, House of Mandarin seeks to create delicious dishes with taste at the heart of its culinary experience. Some of the noteworthy dishes on the menu include Spicy Crabmeat Soup, Aromatic Crispy Duck Pancakes, Turnip cake with burnt garlic & scallions, Seafood dumpling with vanilla & truffle butter, Spicy Mapo Tofu, Lobster on a bed of Soft Noodles, HOM Steamed Chicken with Lily Flower, Tenderloin in Black Pepper, Barbeque Spare Ribs, HOM Glazed Lamb in Chef’s Special Sauce, Singapore Chilli Crab and Belgian Chocolate & Mandarin Dome with Cointreau. While they have a variety of mouth-watering dishes, the dim sums at House of Mandarin definitely steal the spotlight. With an extensive collection, you can choose to have either steamed, pan fried or even baked dim sums.
The restaurant offers an impressive range of wines along with classic cocktails and premium spirits. Although, House of Mandarin’s speciality are their signature cocktails made using ingredients that enhance the flavours of their Chinese cuisine. The Mandarin, The Shaolin Monk, Firecracker Mary, Yin & Yang and Smokey Tengfei are few must-try cocktails.
Interiors at the new House of Mandarin in Powai designed by Minnie Bhatt are rooted in the cultural influence and cuisine of the Chinese lineage in the country. It has a warm, contemporary vibe that is inviting but also intriguing with the use of unconventional Chinese aesthetic elements. A copper metal lattice with wooden panels on the columns in between creates an interesting façade complemented by flooring that is cemented with an inlay of brass strips. Large art installations with plates of blue and white china running against a gold backdrop form are a key highlight. The central focus of the space is a distinct design element; patina finished bells suspended from the central area inspired by bells from the Chinese Qing dynasty. The bar has been created to resemble a large black lacquered cabinet with brass knobs against a plum coloured wall dotted with artefacts. Perfect for group dining & small celebrations, the private dining area has a wallpaper pattern in chartreuse to liven up the walls & complement the lacquered plum dining table. The seating is a variety of curved sofa booths, couches & chairs.
Giving a glimpse into the concept behind House of Mandarin, Rachel Goenka, Founder & CEO of The Chocolate Spoon Company says, “House of Mandarin aims to stand out amidst the numerous fusion Asian diners and is a throwback to Chinese restaurants with the main focus being authentic Chinese cuisine. We are truly ecstatic and looking-forward to giving the plush neighbourhood of Powai a taste of the Mandarin Experience.”
