IIHM announces its India contestant for Young Chef Olympiad 2018

Bengaluru, 11th January, 2018: International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM)announces Surya Sekhar Roy Choudhury as India contestant for the 4th edition Young Chef Olympiad 2018, world’s largest culinary competition for hospitality students.

Young Chef Olympiad in 2018 will be held in India across 4 Indian cities, supported by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka. Young Chef Olympiad was created as a platform for chefs-in-training from around the world to interact and showcase their talent. The previous three editions got tremendous positive response from the international hospitality community, making the event the most-anticipated contest across the world.

Surya Sekhar, who hails from West Bengal is passionate about food and cooking and wants to follow his dream to become one of the best chefs in the world. The 24 year old will be competing with 50 other countries for a cash prize of $10,000 and the YCO trophy. The judge’s panel will feature some of the leading chefs across the world.

The young chef, Surya Sekhar who is inspired by great chefs like Marco Pierre White and Vineet Bhatia loves to experiment with Indian cuisine as he feels it is a cuisine with limitless diversities. Apart from Indian cuisine, Surya loves experimenting with Italian cuisine as he finds their food simple and prepared with the best quality ingredients.

Surya Sekhar Roy Choudhury, Indian Contestant for YCO 2018 said, “For the upcoming YCO 2018 I am trying to bring my love for food on the plate and under the guidance of my faculty chefs hopefully I will be able to execute my plan efficiently. I look forward to meet and interact with participants, mentors and judges from all the visiting nations and our culinary industry and learn as much as possible from this huge event. To me each and every contestant is equally potent and can give me a hard time, but the toughest opponent to me is the ticking clock as each and every second is a deciding moment in this competition.”

YCO 2018 will play host to over 50 countries, including England, France, Malaysia, Mexico, Scotland, Australia, USA, Spain, Sweden, Honk Kong, Iceland and more, between 28th January 2018 to 2nd February 2018. The event opens in New Delhi, followed by cook-off in Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata with the Grand Finale which will happen in Kolkata on the 2nd February, 2018.

The Young Chef Olympiad (YCO) was conceptualized by International Institute of Hotel Management to connect young chefs globally and to build bridges for talent in the field of culinary arts across borders. YCO 2018 will play host to over 50 countries, and will be held over six days in four Indian cities. The Principal Judge and IIHM Mentor, celebrated chef and pioneer in Indian Television cookery show, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, will be a part of the judges’ panel. Some of the judges include Chef Avijit Ghosh, Chef Shaun Kenworthy, Chef Ranveer Brar, Chef Manjit Singh Gill and international chefs like Andreas Muller, Chef Udo Leick and more.
