Indian cuisine usually consists of spices and masalas, there is a quote which says Hurry, Worry & Curry is the root cause of digestive problems.

If curry is the problem here, you definitely need a digestive

Do you have digestive problems? If the answer to my question is YES, here are a few ways that will help you aid digestion and also works as a mouth freshener.

Mukhwas, is prepared with various seeds and nuts, but the most used are the anise seeds, fennel seeds, , char magaz seeds, desiccated coconut and sesame seeds. The fennel seeds may be savoury or sugar-coated, brilliantly coated. Sometimes essential oils or peppermint oils are incorporated in it.

Aam Papad a sundried preparation prepared with Mango pulp and sugar solution which is concentrated. These are not only very delectable but also acts as an excellent digestive.

Hajmola controls flatulence and digestive problems. Ingredients mostly used in Hajmola is prepared with Ayurveda herbs which possess medicinal values, pippali i.e long pepper ,samudra lavan i.e rock salt, sarkara ,cumin seeds, black pepper and saunth i.e. dry ginger. Flavourings like anardana and mint leaves may be used to further enhance the flavor and aid digestion. It may be consumed by people having problems of indigestion Acid-reflux, heart-burn and air sickness while travelling by air.

Fennel seeds (saunf) : Extremely beneficial in indigestion. A mouth freshener with a dual use of a digestive, very flavourful consumed mostly after a heavy meal. Also acts as a coolant for our body especially in the scorching summers.

Meetha Paan : A mouth freshener , helps in digestion after heavy meals prepared with, desiccated coconut, sugar-coated fennel seeds, gulkand , sprinkled with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg powder, glazed cherries for the garnish some add sweet salli supari to it, these ingredients are neatly wrapped and folded in two betel leaves and chewed / eaten after a very hearty meal. SAY NO TO TOBACCO.

Ajwain / Carom Seeds: It cures stomach ache, flatulence, nausea. Ajwain water or ajwain tea is very beneficial for digestion. It has anti-inflammatory and curative properties. Kids are generally given ajwain water to avoid any kind of indigestion.

Black Peppercorns– When crushed and added to a food preparation stimulates digestion. If you prefer eating it as it is, it tends to give effective results.

The list of digestives is endless, the above mentioned ingredients not only have therapeutic but also culinary uses.
