Indian-origin prison guard Sashi Cheliah wins MasterChef Australia 2018

39-year-old Sashi Cheliah, a prison guard from Adelaide has won the tv reality cooking show MasterChef Australia 2018. He scored 93 out of 100 points to beat fellow contestant Ben Borsht, who scored 77 out of 100.

In the first round, he had a good start as he made sambal prawns which got him a perfect score of 30 wherein the final round he made the fish curry which he honoured to his aunt grabbed him 27 points. Borsht had a very bad start with just 41 points.

Borsht gave him a good fight in the second round but the lead in the first round helped Cheliah to secure the title. Cheliah won Masterchef trophy and winning amount of USD  250,000 while the runner-up was awarded USD 40,000.

Cheliah used social media to thank everyone for their support and announced his future plans. He wrote, "Hi everyone... thank you very much for the huge support and love from all over the world. I am so blessed and honoured. Love you so much...Some exciting new ventures are coming soon so stay tuneed...My first pop up will start on 17/8 in HWKR Melbourne- Gaja by Sashi.”
