Indian Railways stepping towards AI.

Indian Railways is planning to use artificial intelligence technology and facial recognition system to identify criminals.

The Railway Protection Force, established in 1957 by the Railway Protection Force, which works for the security and protection of railway property, is aiming to link  Facial Recognition System (FRS) with existing databases. This will for the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS).

Railway is actually planning to connect CCTNS with their FRS software, which can be used to fetch details of potential criminals and match them. An official mentioned that the system can be installed across all major stations in the country, and it will turn out to be a major security breakthrough.

However, security experts are not in favour of this move and have warned how this step could potentially violate the privacy of an individual and also put one’s data at risk. Keeping in mind the previous upgradations happened in Indian railways, this development should not come as a surprise to experts, who have been watching government enterprises.

Under the leadership of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the railway has adopted technologies like ML, AI, and computer vision over the past few years. Further, from chatbot Ustaad to developing an AI to serve hygienic food to travellers, the Indian Railways has come a long way in terms of adopting technologies in all spheres.
