India, 27th February 2025– The Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), the only official ASI-affiliated body in India, is proud to announce three ground-breaking initiatives that will elevate the Indian sommelier community to new heights. These include the introduction of the globally recognised ASI Sommelier Diploma in India, the SAI 2025 Best Sommelier of India Competition, and the SAI Membership Program.
For the first time, the prestigious ASI Sommelier Diploma will be conducted in India, exclusively through SAI. This globally recognised certification is a hallmark of excellence in the oeno-gastronomy industry. The exam is scheduled for March 10, 2025, in Mumbai, and is open to SAI members with at least three years of experience. Candidates can achieve three certification levels—Bronze (60%), Silver (65%), and Gold (75%)—with an additional 10% bonus for foreign language exams in English, French, or Spanish. Successful candidates will receive the ASI Sommelier Diploma, an official pin, and a certificate, granting them global recognition.
Additionally, a special lecture by Mattia Antonio Cianca will be conducted at The Lalit Suri Hospitality School in Delhi on March 17, 2025, offering valuable insights into the world of wine and sommellerie. Following this, the ASI Certification 1 exam will take place on March 18, 2025, at the same venue. This exam is exclusively for members of the Sommelier Association of India. Registration closes on February 28, 2025.
Amrita Singh, President of Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), stated, "Bringing the ASI Sommelier Diploma to India is a monumental step for the sommelier community. This certification will not only validate the expertise of Indian sommeliers but also open doors to global opportunities, reinforcing India’s presence on the international wine and hospitality stage. Our membership program is designed to empower sommeliers with the tools and opportunities they need to excel. By joining SAI, members become part of a global community that values excellence, innovation, and collaboration."
The recently concluded 2025 Best Sommelier of India Competition was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent within the Indian sommelier community. Jai Singh, the winner of the competition, will now represent India at the 2025 ASI Contest Best Sommelier of Asia & Pacific Competition, with the ultimate goal of competing at the 2026 ASI Contest Best Sommelier of the World Championship.. Participants were tested on their knowledge, tasting skills, and service expertise, making this competition a defining moment for the Indian sommelier industry.
SAI is also proud to offer its Membership Program, which provides unparalleled benefits to sommeliers and wine professionals. As the only official ASI-affiliated body in India, SAI membership grants exclusive access to the ASI Diploma, global networking opportunities, industry master-classes, and competitive platforms. Only SAI members can register for the ASI Diploma exam and international sommelier competitions, making membership a gateway to global recognition and success.
Mattia Antonio, Vice President of Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), commented, "The ASI Sommelier Diploma and SAI Membership Program are more than just opportunities; they are a testament to the growing potential of Indian sommeliers. By equipping them with world-class education and a global network, we are paving the way for India to become a key player in the international wine and hospitality industry."
SAI invites all wine and hospitality professionals to join this exciting journey. Whether you are aiming for the ASI Sommelier Diploma, competing for the title of Best Sommelier of India, or seeking to expand your network through the SAI Membership Program, this is your opportunity to be part of a transformative movement in the Indian wine industry.
