Vedatya Hospitality Management Students Brew Hands-On Learning with In-House Beer-Making Project

New Delhi, 25th June 2025: Reinforcing its commitment to experiential learning, Vedatya, a premier institution in Hospitality and Culinary education, recently undertook a comprehensive beer-making project as part of the curriculum for their Semester 2 Hospitality Management students. The hands-on activity allowed students to immerse themselves in the intricate brewing process, from barley to bottle gaining both technical knowledge and practical exposure.

Under expert guidance, students actively participated in each step of the brewing cycle.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Sandeep Munjal, Director of Vedatya’s School of Hospitality, shared, “At Vedatya, we believe that practical, application-based learning is key to preparing students for the real-world demands of the hospitality industry. Projects like this beer-making initiative not only build technical competence but also give our students a competitive edge when applying for internships and jobs. Having hands-on experience allows them to step into industry roles with confidence and clarity, making them more desirable candidates in a competitive global market.”

The activity began with cleaning and soaking barley to initiate germination. The grains were then kilned and ground to create the grist, which was mixed with hot water to produce the wort, a vital step in beer production.

The wort was cooled and combined with bloomed yeast to trigger fermentation. Following several days of careful monitoring, the fermented liquid underwent filtration, with students conducting alcohol content testing successfully achieving a 5% ABV brew.

The final stages of CO₂ injection and bottling are slated for completion in the coming week. Once bottled, the finished product will serve as both a learning artifact and a testament to the students’ dedication and growing expertise.
