Jamai Shasti, a time-honoured Bengali tradition, holds a special place in the hearts of families across Bengal. Historically, this occasion is marked by a grand celebration where mothers-in-law pamper their sons-in-law with sumptuous feasts, symbolising their affection and blessings. Originating from ancient Bengali customs, Jamai Shasti is celebrated on the sixth day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of Jyeshtha (May-June). The tradition dates back to the times when it was believed that appeasing sons-in-law would ensure the prosperity and happiness of the daughters’ families.

The day starts with rituals where sons-in-law are invited to their in-laws' house, adorned with traditional tilak, and blessed with an auspicious 'Shasti' (a mark of protection). The highlight of the day is the grand feast prepared with utmost care, featuring the best of Bengali cuisine. This cultural festivity not only strengthens family bonds but also preserves the rich culinary heritage of Bengal.
