Agoda reveals: Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala is India’s top emerging destination

Agoda’s New Horizons ranking, which is released annually, compares the accommodation booking ranks of the two previous years to identify the highest climbers in international travel in Asia.

Among inbound destinations, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest growth, climbing 11 places from 33rd in 2024 to 22nd in 2025, making it the fastest growing destination for international travelers visiting India. Known for its serene beaches, rich cultural heritage, and proximity to Kerala’s backwaters and hill stations, the city offers a blend of leisure, wellness, and heritage experiences.

On the domestic front, Indore emerged as the top trending destination within India, rising 7 places from 35th in 2024 to 28th in 2025, reflecting increased interest in emerging Indian cities among domestic travelers. The city is celebrated for its vibrant street food culture, cleanliness, and growing reputation as a modern urban hub with strong historical roots.

For outbound travel, Almaty in Kazakhstan recorded the strongest rise among destinations booked by Indian travelers, climbing 12 places from 47th in 2024 to 35th in 2025, indicating growing appetite for newer international destinations. Set against the backdrop of the Tien Shan mountains, Almaty appeals with its mix of scenic landscapes, adventure activities, and a distinctive Eurasian cultural experience.

Looking at the top emerging destinations for Asian travelers combined, Sapa (Vietnam) tops the list as Asia’s rising star. Vietnam’s scenic mountain destination is followed by Okayama (Japan), Bandung (Indonesia), Matsuyama (Japan), and Takamatsu (Japan) as the top five destinations in Asia showcasing the highest growth in international travel interest.
