INDIA, August 6, 2025: With India’s 79th Independence Day creating a perfect long weekend, Indian travellers are once again seizing the opportunity to transform a short break into a meaningful escape. Data from Booking.comone of the world’s leading online travel platforms, reveals a dynamic travel landscape driven by a desire for both domestic discovery and accessible international adventures. Travellers are opting for tranquil coastal towns, misty hill retreats and short-haul international ‘mini-cations’ across Asia-Pacific that offer a change of scenery and a chance to reconnect with nature, family or friends.

Hitting the road: from city to serenity

With over half (58%) of Indian travellers opting for short domestic trips this year, destinations within driveable distances from major metros are seeing a rise in travel interest. Weekend hotspots such as Alibaug, Karjat and Igatpuri near Mumbai or Rishikesh and Mussoorie near Delhi are experiencing a 40%-80%* surge in accommodation searches compared to the same time last year. Additionally, all-time favourite destinations such as Lonavala, Jaipur, Mahabaleshwar and Chikmagalur are also witnessing an increase in searches, reflecting the growing appetite for quick, restorative breaks.

Tranquil coastal escapes

Beyond the classic hill stations, travellers are also seeking peaceful coastal escapes, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Quieter spots like Varkala and Gokarna, along with the all-time favourite Goa, are seeing a 10-40%* surge in interest this long weekend.

From Green Hills to Golden Sands: APAC travel takes off

Indian travellers are increasingly exploring destinations within the APAC region for their long weekend fix, with Thailand emerging as a top favourite. Travel interest for Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya have surged over 60%* among travellers looking for a perfect blend of vibrant street life, pristine beaches and rich culture—the ideal ingredients for a quick, impactful international reset.
