MasterChef Australia got fiery hot on Thursday night with the Chilli Relay Challenge, leaving contestants in the dark about the hero ingredient until the clock started ticking. While everyone else was bracing themselves for the challenge, Phillipinian chef John Carasig was reminded of his famous white chocolate velouté fiasco in the season 7 relay and was keen to redeem himself this time. Divided into 4 teams, John took up the captaincy of the red team with Tommy, Sarah, Sashi and Christina, with a spicy, favoured Srilankan Chicken curry accompanied by a chilli jamon their plate. With tactical moves and effective communication, the team made the dish better and more delectable with each change. However, it failed to impress the judges as the chilli jam let them down.
Meanwhile, team green with Fans - Harry, Montana, Steph, Ali and the Favourite Mindy astonished the Judges with a stunning plate of sweet chilli, golden chicken wings plated alongside fragrant chilli rice, chilli sauce and crunchy Thai basil on the top and team purple led by Matt with Jenn, Keyma, Daniel and Max drowned in the confusion of what dish to create until the very end.
In all the chaotic helter-skelter, it was team grey’s Thai chilli chicken curry led by Julie Goodwin and Micheal’s chilli pickle on the side that stood out. The team including Minoli, Alvin and Billie left thejudges impressed with a stunning plate of creamy green Thai chicken curry powered by flavours of chilli and coconut accompanied by a crisp bowl of fresh chilli pickle. The grey team that stood out reining their victory joined Aldo and Melanie for the next immunity challenge.
After an excruciating relay, the contestants also joined chefs Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo for the first masterclass of 2022!
