Moonshine Meadery Bags Awards at the International Wine and Spirits Competition

India, 22 July 2022: Asia's and India's first Meadery, Moonshine Meadery's seasonal small batch releases - the Guava Chilli and Grilled Pineapple meads - have won awards at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), one of the most prestigious, and longest-running spirits competitions in the world. The brand's aforementioned meads stood out in the category of "Alternative drinks including lighter/low and no alcohol" at this year's competition. With brands from over 90 countries across the world applying, and a six-month-long evaluation process, IWSC has set the international benchmark for quality in the spirit industry.

Made using multi-floral honey, guavas sourced from the Khed-Shivapur in Pune District, and Naga Ghost chillies from Assam, the Guava Chilli Mead won the Silver, scoring 91 points out of 100.

The Grilled Pineapple which won the Bronze is made using pineapples sourced from the Sindudurg district in Maharashtra, which are then charcoal grilled on an open flame, bringing about a unique smoky peat-like flavour to the drink.

It’s important to note that this is not the first international recognition that Moonshine is getting; in fact, the same two SKUs have also previously won awards at competitions across London and Hong Kong along with another small batch release named Project X.

Rohan Rehani, Co-Founder, Moonshine Meadery - "This is another tremendous endorsement of the quality and taste of our uniquely flavoured seasonal meads and we are extremely proud to be recognised by IWSC.”

"We enjoy exploring different flavours to reinvent the drink for modern times. There’s no limit to how creative people can get with it and it is this very flexibility that excites mead makers." He further added.

Launched by Nitin Vishwas and Rohan Rehani in 2018, Moonshine is India’s first mead brand. An alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with fruits and spices, meads are the oldest form of alcohol known to man, predating even beers and grape wines. While most meaderies around the world focus on using mono-floral honey and make still, high alcohol meads, Moonshine focuses heavily on using local fruits, flowers, and spices along with multi-floral honey to make carbonated, low alcohol meads. Their labels are quirky and fun, integrating the culture of discovery and experimentation. Moonshine has been inviting different artists from all across the country to channel their creativity onto the labels.

About Moonshine Meadery

Established in 2018, Moonshine Meadery is India’s first meadery that brings back the ancient alcoholic beverage  - Mead in refreshing modern avatars. Made by fermenting pure honey with various fruits and spices, Moonshine’s meads make for 100% natural, flavourful beverages.

Moonshine constantly innovates and experiments with a range of ingredients—like multifloral honey, orange blossom honey, coffee beans, guavas, apples, chillies, kaffir lime, and much more—to offer a diverse spread of fresh meads that suit different tastes. While Moonshine's spectrum of flagship meads—Apple Cyder Mead, Traditional Mead and Coffee Mead—are available around the year, the brand also offers seasonal meads known as the MeadLABs. These include Salted Kokum Mead, Guava Chilli Mead, Chocolate Orange Mead, and Bourbon Oaked Apple Mead, amongst several others. In addition to meads, Moonshine Meadery has now also introduced The Moonshine Honey Project to offer customers honey in its purest form, sourced directly from beekeepers across the country. Slowly carving a niche for itself in the Indian and Asian alco-bev sector at large, Moonshine is currently available in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Rajasthan, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Silvassa.
