Plaza Premium Lounge pledges for a noble cause

New Delhi: Plaza Premium Lounge (PPL), the world’s largest award-winning, independent lounge network has collaborated with Feeding India, a non-profit organization together being operated by the co-founder - Ankit Kawatra and Zomato, in a bid to fight hunger and ensure no food wastage. PPL has pledged to feed more than 1,000 children a month. The initiative intends to contribute to the nation’s fight against hunger, poverty and to address the problem of food wastage.

"Whether it's Indian weddings or major hospitality chains, due to the mass production of food, there is definite wastage, too. In a country like India, poverty and hunger have become the two most vital issues that need to be addressed at this hour. Our pledge is to reduce wastage of food and pass this message on to the society as well," remarks Bhavya Kukreja, GM PR & MARCOM, Plaza Premium Group. He also shared that, "As we put forth our helping hand to the society, we aim to provide fresh and healthy food to the needy".

PPL together with Feeding India has started serving surplus food to needy children around IGI Airport's T1 Lounge. Now, with the success of the first phase, the plan is to redirect the excess food from the other lounges too. There remains asurplus amount of food that can be of great help to feed the undernourished segments of society. Although, it has started from T1, but they soon plan to expand to all the terminals in Delhi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.

Presently, the food is picked straight from the kitchen of IGI Airport -T1 by the Feeding India Hunger Heros during lunch hours after a thorough scrutiny of food safety including safety and hygiene, thereafter, it is delivered to the children of Delhi in need, within a stipulated time, to retain its freshness.

"We are enthralled to collaborate along with Plaza Premium Lounge in this mission to eradicate hunger and poverty. With the help of Feeding India's Magic Wheels (food recovery vehicles) the entire process is managed end-to-end wherein the food from all the lounges is collected and donated to the people in need. This idea ensures almost zero food wastage and supports all those who cannot get a supply of adequate or regular access to fresh and healthy food. I am grateful to thePlaza Premium Group's team, especially Bhavya Kukreja, for leading this initiative and we hope that this sends out astrong message to all the other food cafeterias to come forward, step up and donate their extra food too," said Ankit Kwatra, Founder, Feeding India.

Feeding India serves over 1.1 million people a day. Food delivery platform Zomato has acquired Feeding India, a non-profit organisation with an aim to serve at least 100 million underprivileged people every month. Plaza Premium Lounge isa part of this noble cause and determined to serve people who have little or no access to food.
