New Delhi, India, 3rd November 2025: McDonald’s India (North & East) had the honour of hosting Dr. Jitender Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, during his visit to McDonald’s, ECE House, Delhi, to celebrate and promote the CSIR-CFTRI–McDonald’s initiative for the introduction of Multi-Millet Buns in McDonald’s restaurants.

Developed in collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR–CFTRI) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Multi-Millet Bun represents a first-of-its-kind innovation in India’s Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry.

Crafted from a wholesome blend of five “superfood” millets - Bajra, Ragi, Jowar, Proso, and Kodo, the new bun brings together taste, nutrition, and sustainability. Each millet is renowned for its nutritional value and sourced locally from different parts of the country, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. This sourcing approach reflects McDonald’s India’s deep commitment to local and sustainable agriculture, supporting Indian farmers and aligning with the Government of India’s “Shree Anna” initiative to promote millet-based foods.

Every bite of McDonald’s Multi-Millet Bun is a journey through delicious flavours and added goodness, specially crafted for those who love good food and care about balanced nutrition. McDonald’s reimagined menu now offers customers their favourite burgers from the classic McAloo Tikki to the fiery McSpicy Paneer, in a nutritious new avatar, made even better with the Multi-Millet Bun. Available as a paid upgrade across McDonald’s in India, this option ensures that customers enjoy both the iconic McDonald’s taste and the benefits of superfood millets, without compromise.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sanjeev Agrawal, Chairman, McDonald’s India (North & East), said, “McDonald’s has always been a strong believer in the Government’s initiatives and remains committed to creating meaningful collaborations that benefit Indian consumers. The multi-millet bun is a step in that direction, bringing together taste and nutrition while supporting local farmers. This initiative started in McDonald’s Mumbai since then we have been promoting this across our restaurants.”

He additionally said, we look forward for many such collaborations with Govt Initiatives to continue to create meaningful differences in the Indian economy and for consumers.”

Through this milestone initiative, McDonald’s India continues to blend legacy with innovation, embracing traditional Indian ingredients backed by modern food science. The introduction of the Multi-Millet Bun not only offers consumers a more nutritious choice but also reflects the brand’s broader vision to promote sustainability, empower local farmers, and contribute meaningfully to India’s millet movement.
