KOKO is set to be coloured red and golden as Chinese New Year celebrations officially begin on Friday. The Year of Ox and denotes the hard work, positivity, and honesty that will be manifested in all of us this year.
Capturing the spirit of the festivity, the décor will include the auspicious shimmery red lanterns across the restaurant. According to the popular beliefs, the colour red not just creates a warm vibe but also wards off bad luck
Chef Eric Sifu at KOKO has curated a special menu for the celebration giving a modern take to dishes that are traditional in nature! Keeping in mind, that fish symbolizes abundance and is considered customary to serve it as part of the New Year meal, the menu has included dishes such as Fortune Snapper in Fermented Chilli sauce, Lobster Tails, in Spicy XO Sauce. Wishing its diners prosperity and wealth, the menu also has dishes like Fat Choy Chicken Xiao Long Bao Dumpling, that consists of colourful eight flavor Shanghai soup dumpling and Prosperity Aubergine Maki, a Homestyle roasted Miso Aubergine, Enoki Tempura. Cakes have a special place in the Chinese New Year celebration as their sweetness symbolizes a rich, sweet life and KOKO has got it right with their New Year Rum Baba which is a syrup soaked rum cake with fruit compote, Mango, Passionfruit puree served with generous amount of Vanilla ice cream.
Needless to say that their cocktail menu also entails drinks inspired by the concept of good luck and well-being. The menu includes drinks such as Daji Dali – which means Lots of Luck and Profit. Inspired by the fact that eating Citrus fruits during Chinese New year is an indication of good luck and wealth they have also made Homemade Limoncello that’s used to make Daji Dali. Believing that eating noodles on Chinese New year leads to Long Life, you can also try the Gonghe Xinnian which is made of Green Chartreuse, Miso, Vegetable Broth, Chilly Tincture, and Noodles.
The celebration doesn’t end without handing over the traditional Red Envelope to their patrons wishing them good luck and warding off evil from their life. While at family gatherings, the envelope contains money, at KOKO, the envelope holds a gift card that entitles the guest to avail complimentary sushi or dim sum platter on their next visit.
