Safety rules for tourists suggested by Nagaland Police

Northeast India is famous for its tribal festivals. Hornbill Festival is one of the most important festivals in Northeast India. It is celebrated in Nagaland every year in the first week of December. This year it will be celebrated in the Naga Heritage Village which is around 12km away from Kohima. The dates of the festival are from 1st December to 10th December. 

Before this festival, the Nagaland Police has come up with several safety and security measures and has also implemented guidelines for tourists to ensure that they enjoy a hassle-free vacation in Nagaland during this time. Following are the rules suggested for tourists visiting Nagaland.

Nagaland Tourist Police (NTP) has urged the tourists to not visit isolated places without a proper guide.

The police have asked the visitors to pay the driver only after reaching your desired spot.

The police reiterated that one should pay while sitting in the car, and also requested to not deal with any middle man or touts for any kind of service.

Don’t hire taxis without number plates. Avoid writing your telephone number and home address on the luggage. Don’t wear name tags in public, and if you are in any kind of business trip, remove your tag while leaving the hotel or conference room.

Stay with your luggage until it is checked or deposited in the hotel’s safe. Keep all your personal stuff, such as driving license, passport, credit cards, and other documents in separate handbags.

Keep a small flashlight with you, so that you can help yourself if you are stuck in some dark lanes.

Don’t travel with too many credit cards, and avoid taking any edible items from strangers.

Avoid eating anything from outside. Drink boiled water, and check the seal and date of packaging.

Keep your prescription medicines with you.

Always use the stairs if a fire is detected.

Beware of staged road accidents, which might catch you off-guard.

Keep your hotel reception or friends informed about your whereabouts so that you can call them in case of any emergencies.

Beware of sharing your travel information in public.

Carry first-aid supplies with you.

Research and check about local weather, so that you wear clothes accordingly.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene, especially in ecologically sensitive areas.

Respect local culture and tradition.
