Shelter by Javaphile in Versova unveils a new chapter in community dining

Located in Versova, where the lively dining culture thrives, a community cafe has emerged – Shelter by Javaphile. Introduced by the spirited visionaries, Suren Joshi and Ms Alsha Imran Shaikh, this three-storey venue goes beyond the confines of a conventional cafe. It stands as a sacred refuge – a gathering place where diverse souls intertwine, embracing the essence of shared moments, freshly made food, and the enchantment of extraordinary coffee. Under the culinary wizardry of Head Chef Soumojit Sinha and the artistry of Head Pastry Chef Ameek Kaur, Shelter by Javaphile beckons, inviting patrons on a heartfelt journey that goes far beyond the mere act of dining.

The innovative menu breaks free from tradition, presenting a tempting array of all-day breakfast specialssmoothie bowls, salads, healthy bowls, loaf variants & burgers, wood-fired sourdough pizzas and irresistible bites from the dessert bar. Pastry Chef Ameek shares that each dish here is prepared on the spot, ensuring a burst of freshness with every mouthful. Dish highlights include Beetroot Thecha Toast, Sourdough Poha, Tiramisu French Toast, Japanese Avocado & Seaweed Salad, Miso Salmon Bowl, Baked Rigatoni & Cheese, Hot Plate Halloumi, Burrata Shroom Burger, Profiteroles, Carrot Cake, Lamington, Cinnamon roll and quite possibly the city’s finest eggless chocolate chip cookie.

At Shelter, Chef Soumojit & Chef Ameek ensures that no ingredient goes to waste, embodying a commitment to sustainability and mindful consumption. The kitchen operates under a strict no-wastage policy, creatively repurposing leftover sourdough into the flavorful Sourdough Poha dish and similar methods for various dishes. This eco-conscious approach adds an extra layer of depth to the culinary experience, reflecting Shelter's dedication to both exquisite taste and responsible practices.

In this sanctuary, every nook and cranny designed by Lila Sarin breathes the warmth of community and the allure of soulful connections. Trained under the guidance of renowned interior designer Ashiesh Shah, Lila brings a wealth of expertise and creativity to Shelter’s aesthetic. The ground floor features a live pizza counter and a bakery station, for diners to indulge in the aromatic delights of freshly prepared cuisine. The second floor reveals the Library Cafe, a serene corner bathed in the soft sunlight streaming through west-facing arched windows. Terracotta flooring and distinctive boulder columns create a lively atmosphere, while a skylight introduces a cascade of light, enchanting visitors with a fleeting rainbow in the reading area.

As night falls, this scenic spot transforms into a versatile venue, hosting not only movie screenings but also stand-up comedy performances and artist showcases, thereby celebrating Versova's vibrant entertainment culture. Adding to the charm, a private dining space on this open-air terrace, adorned with silk fabrics and sheer curtains, forms a cozy nook beneath the vast open skies.

Shelter by Javaphile isn't just a cafe; it's a love letter to the community, a poetic ode to the shared human experience. As you step into this soulful place, prepare to be embraced by the warm melodies of laughter, the aromatic whispers of crafted dishes, and the communal heartbeat that echoes through every corner.
