Taj Lakefront Bhopal organizes Tribal Food Festival in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Tourism

The 10-day festival starting 9th of March 2022 was inaugurated by Honourable Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Patel

Bhopal; 09th Mar 2022: Taj Lakefront Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh Tourism today announced, ‘Tribal Food Festival’. The festival will take place at Satpura Terrace of Taj Lakefront Bhopal and will represent five tribes of Madhya Pradesh. The festival was inaugurated by Honourable Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Patel.

The festival brings together five tribes of the region namely Gond, Baiga, Bharia, Kol and Korku. The idea started with a small expedition of Taj Lakefront’s Executive Chef, Mr Anup Gupta to the district of Anuppur. Together with the District Collector of Anuppur, Ms. Sonia Meena, the team connected with the tribes and gain the true experience first-hand. The festival eventually came to life to present this experience on a bigger platform.

Talking about the importance such festivals hold, Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Tourism & Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Bhopal said, “Madhya Pradesh officially has a total of 44 tribes residing in the state. All these tribes have their distinct way of living which makes our region so rich and diverse in terms of its cuisines, music, dance forms, art, and culture. Tribal Food Festival is a small effort to bring forward these tribes in the mainstream. It’s an opportunity for all the people who have always wanted the authentic tribal experience closely.”

The performance of Shri Teejan Bai, the Padma Vibhushan Awardee was the main highlight of the inaugural event. The event also saw the launch of ‘Times Passion Trails’, where a group of influencers and avid readers will go on a tour across Madhya Pradesh with an aim to explore state’s diverse tribal culture. Both these events together are a joint effort to revive, explore and educate about the rich tribal diversity of Madhya Pradesh.

The menu curated for the festival includes unique flavours of different tribes and will be served together in a thaali (earthen plate). Some of these dishes are Munga tamatar badi (Inspired from Baiga Tribe), Dahi ki mirchi(Inspired from Bharia Tribe), Thetra rabdi(Inspired from Bharia Tribe) and Putu pihri (Inspired from Gond Tribe).
