Happy Commercial Women's Day to the Hospitality Industry!!!

Well, nothing is surprising in this line. Women’s day is highly economical for the Hospitality Industry. Be it hotels, restaurants, bars, spa or resorts. Each and every place have their full proof plans on how to double their income on Women’s day.

What is Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day started in 1911 in Britain. Women started a rally in demand of the right to vote and equal pay. International Women’s Day was recognized by the United Nations Organisation in 1975 (very soon) and finally, in 2011, The President Barack Obama of the United States declared March as the month of women’s history. Women’s Day is a symbol of revolt against the problems which women are facing for decades.

Let’s discuss some facts!!

In 2017, 1.3 million women experienced domestic violence. It’s been more than a century since women’s day started and still, women face such problems.

Women work more than men in companies but they are paid less (And then they talk about equality).

The Great offers of Hospitality Industry

Top hotel brands are giving offers. People think they are doing something special for women. When thought from one person’s perspective it seems good. But if you calculate their income of the day, they earn more than regular days. Ever paid attention to the terms and conditions they write in minute letters below the offer?

Illustrating one:

20 % off for women on one night stay in the hotel. T&C applied. Minimum room charges should be 8000 Rs.

A single woman would never stay in a room for just one night for 8000 Rs. But such offers attract women and they do so.

Spa gives offers for a group of women . 15 % off for a Group of 3. T&C Applied. Minimum charges per person should be Rs. 6000 Complimentary drinks are given in bars and restaurants. You buy 2 drinks and 3rd will be given free. For a girl, she paid for 2 and received 3 drinks. But for the Bar 75 Women paid for 150 drinks. And this is not their regular income.

The brutal reality is, the Hospitality Industry uses the name of Women’s Day for earning their benefits. Do they even understand the actual reason behind women’s day? Internet was filled with posts of hotels. Many of them posted their female staff pictures. Not a single post was about a new appointment of a woman in Hotel. Neither any bonus is given to them or any increment in their salary nor they received any promotions. They give maternity leave for pregnant women. But when has a hotel permitted their women staff to work for 7 hours instead of 8 or 9. A child needs care even after birth.

The industry is full of pretentiousness but when has an actual bold step been taken for women. Women should think before accepting such offers. According to a report of the Office of National Statistics (ONS) men are paid more than women. They talk about empowering the women and next day pay her less than men. Hypocrisy is soaring high in this Industry. Stop using Women’s Day for your own benefit. Don’t offend women. Learn to respect this day. It is important for us. Women are proving themselves in each and every field. Not a single woman can say that she was not pushed away by a man. Stop playing commercial games in the name of Women’s Day.
