Mumbai - The Orchid Hotel Mumbai, Asia's first certified ecotel hotel, hosted an event during the International Compost Awareness Week to spread awareness about responsible environmental practices and encourage participation in sustainability initiatives.

The event showcased the hotel's robust waste management system, where wet waste is converted to rich compost for gardening purposes. The hotel's energy-saving measures include using natural sunlight in the lobby, motion sensors for light management in public areas, and pumba panels to control room temperature to reduce electricity usage.

The event was attended by neighboring hoteliers, including Ginger, BAWA International, IBIS Hotel, Hotel Airlink, T24, vicinity corporate professionals, and police officials. The VP, Operations, Orchid Hotels, Varun Sahani, expressed pride in being part of the hospitality group which is always ahead in eco-friendly initiatives, and highlighted the importance of being responsible for the environment.

The hotel's water management system includes aerators in water taps to reduce water flow by 50% and a sewage treatment plant that treats hotel sewage water for reuse in gardening and air conditioning.

The Orchid Hotel Mumbai follows the 3Rs - Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce - diligently, and its banquet events and marriage functions prioritize green plants over cut flowers for decoration. The hotel's sustainable practices also include using recycled wood for room interiors, amenities, and furniture.
