Pune: The green team of 15 volunteers from The Orchid Hotel, along with local community members, united at Pashan Lake with a common goal on World Water Day. The goal was to restore and preserve the lake's natural beauty. This endeavor reflects Orchid Hotel's ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and advocacy for water conservation. Once a prominent tourist attraction for its pristine waters and bird-watching escapades, Pashan Lake has been reduced to a dump yard of sorts.
Equipped with gloves and trash bags, the volunteers embarked on a comprehensive cleaning drive around the lake. Throughout the day, they diligently removed litter and debris, encompassing various waste such as plastic bottles, wrappers, and discarded fishing equipment, ensuring this serene lake from the British Era and its surrounding area remained free from pollution.
Ayon Bhattacharya, Vice President West India, Kamat Hotels India LTD, expressed gratitude to all participants, highlighting the shared responsibility we bear in safeguarding natural resources. He emphasized the hotel’s unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability, citing initiatives like the Pashan Lake cleaning drive as evidence of their commitment. He remarked, "Through regular collective action, we can significantly impact the health of our ecosystem."
