MUMBAI, MARCH 20, 2023: Japanese Spring and its gourmet treats remind you of a nation whose food & culture have captivated the imagination of the world. This March, the Wasabi by Morimoto at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai – India’s first contemporary Japanese restaurant - celebrates the festival of spring by showcasing a selection of delightful offerings inspired by the Sakura Flower & Spring in Japan.
‘Hanami’ or cherry blossom festivals are held all over Japan during the spring to enjoy the blooming of the sakura flower. It is said that the origin of hanami dates back more than 1,000 years to when aristocrats enjoyed looking at beautiful cherry blossoms and wrote poems inspired by them. The blooms have become symbolic of the impermanence of beauty, as they are beautiful, but fleeting and often do not last longer than 2 weeks.
The Sakura Festival menu at the Wasabi by Morimoto has been specially curated by our MasterChef Shimomura Kazuya to include delicacies enjoyed at Japanese homes in an effort to share this traditional celebration with our guests. From the delicate Chilean Seabass Sakura Mushi, to perfect bites of Oshinko Sakuranoha Sushi Takuan, Ume, Kyuri, and soothing Sakura Soba – this is an experience that will stay with you long after you have left the restaurant. The piece de resistance is the delightfully sweet Sakura Mochi Ice – an eternal favorite created especially for this festival; handmade daily by Chef Shimomura.
The Sakura Festival at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai is ongoing from 20-27 March 2023. For inquiries and reservations, please call +912266653202. Guests can expect thoughtfully prepared food & beverage created especially for this unique festival.
