The luxury wellbeing retreat in the heart of Sasan Gir, Gujarat has curated a sustainable and progressive ecosystem
June, 2023- Woods At Sasan, the modern luxury- wellbeing retreat in the magnificent Sasan Gir Forest, Gujarat is established on the principle of a sustainable and progressive ecosystem of hospitality through engagement, learning, and design.
Nestled in the forest, this retreat in the woods is the first of its kind in India – a luxury retreat that’s based on biophilia and is grounded in sustainable practices.
Woods At Sasan’s sustainability journey is focused on the objective of being mindful of natural and cultural ecosystems. Their initiatives features-
Net Zero Sustainable Stays- Built environments are responsible for 40% of global carbon emissions, making them crucial for addressing climate change. The biophilic designs aim to create net-zero buildings, minimizing their impact on the environment. Woods At Sasan’s approach integrates nature-inspired elements, utilizing local materials and crafts to blend with the surroundings. Prioritizing spaces that enhance human experiences, fostering connections, and promoting love for the environment. Woods At Sasan goes beyond conventional sustainability practices, employing simple and honest architecture that strengthens the bond with nature.
Biodiverse Farms- Woods At Sasan strives for self-sustainability and biodiversity. Initially, a mango orchard with 280 trees was established, followed by the introduction of native and exotic fruit trees, flowers, grasses, and vegetables. The retreat acknowledges the importance of diverse plant species, pollinators, birds, animals, and soil microorganisms for thriving ecosystems. Various plant varieties attract bees, butterflies, and birds that rely on specific flowers and fruits for sustenance and specific tree species for nesting.
Food Sustainability- Woods At Sasan’s sustainable food practices showcase menus that adapt with the seasons and feature locally-grown, mindfully sourced organic produce. Following our tenet of sustainability, we do not use produce transported over long distances. This reduces our carbon footprint and offers guests a variety of nutritional diet options from locally grown produce. We encourage our guests to move to a plant-based diet as a way of protecting the environment, preventing animal suffering and improving health. Other practices such as farm-to-table, slow cooked food and food-waste upcycling are also part of our food philosophy. We are proponents of simple, pure, wholesome food that is rich in energy and nutrition.
Ethical Wildlife Tourism- Biophilia is reflective of a way of life that is immersive and aims to connect one with the essence of nature. This vision encourages the retreat to keep the wildlife protected, allowing them to thrive in their natural habitat. With urbanization, wildlife as entertainment represents a serious threat to conservation and animal welfare, consequently affecting the health of our planet. While many travellers may express their desire to visit places that directly or indirectly abuse wildlife, Woods At Sasan is committed in our mission to protect the natural flora and fauna, and not guide tourists to entities or organizations that thrive at the cost of animal welfare. The retreat respects and continues to uphold the pledge to practice zero tolerance towards animal abuse or unethical practices for frivolous sport in the Gir National Park in Gujarat. Woods At Sasan proudly embraces the wildlife-friendly pledge of World Animal Protection and stands by the message that 'Wildlife belongs in the Wild.'
Community Empowerment- With initiatives such as Shramdaan, Swasthya Sewa,Samajik Granth Pariseva and Krishi Utpadan, Woods At Sasan has been able to impact the lives of over 15,000 villagers in 6 villages near the property, through 24 programs on a variety of social and environmental issues.
At its core, Woods At Sasan believes in curating meaningful hospitality experiences and designs that implement sustainable systems. Therefore, the retreat practices several initiatives to achieve the goal of sustainable development and conserve resources for the future.
