Toothpaste via Swiggy: Food app tests new course

They already had the infrastructure in place, with thousands of “partners” on bikes delivering hot food to your doorsteps. It was natural, then, that Bengaluru-based Swiggy foray into the hyper-local delivery space. Starting with Gurugram as pilot, they promise to deliver items from 3,500 mom-and-pop stores across the city in 11 categories, like groceries, fruits, vegetables, health supplements and flowers.

Swiggy stores will also come up, to connect customers with every store, retailer or brand, said the company in an official statement. If customers already know what they want and from which store, they can list the items, and it will be delivered. But in case they don’t, Swiggy will connect users to popular stores and list bestsellers.

According to Swiggy staffers, customers and non-restaurant merchants and retailers had filed many requests with the company to extend services to non-food businesses. That feedback ultimately led the tech startup to roll out the pilot in Gurugram.
