Singapore, 23 March 2022 – Travelodge Hotels Asia (TLA) today announced its expansion plans across
the region. TLA will launch its first hotel in Japan later this year, and will increase its footprint in
Thailand with 2 more new hotels. This growth trajectory, delivered against the challenging backdrop of
COVID-19, will bring TLA’s portfolio to 16 hotels in 7 countries across Asia, closer to its near-term
ambition of 50 hotels by 2025.
Travelodge in Osaka, Japan
Travelodge Honmachi Osaka marks the company’s entry into Japan, which will be TLA’s seventh
market in Asia since the brand first launched in the region in 2017. The 138-key hotel is strategically
located in the Honmachi district and within walking distance to Shinsaibashi and Namba, well known
among travellers for its street food, shopping and entertainment. With its growing stature as a business
district in Osaka, Honmachi has also seen the development of several MICE facilities and office
buildings in recent years. This positions Travelodge Honmachi Osaka well to capture both leisure and
business travellers.
One of the largest cities in Japan and the host of the World Expo 2025, Osaka is a major business hub.
Its extensive transport connections by air, railway and ferry provides travellers with convenient access
to day trips to popular destinations like Kyoto, Kobe and Hiroshima. Osaka is also slated to be the
home of Japan’s first integrated resort, a US$10 billion project that is expected to complete in the
second half of the 2020s. This new development will add even more vibrancy and excitement to the
city.
“We have had our eye on Japan for a very long time, and so are delighted to be able to launch the brand in a gateway city like Osaka. Japan’s hotel market remains dominated by domestic brands, especially in the economy and upscale segments, and they have done really well. For us, we see a blue ocean in the midscale segment, which is where the Travelodge brand is positioned across Asia. Attracting international travellers is merely a starting point. We also want to increase the brand’s awareness and recognition among the domestic Japanese travelers, and to this end, are firmly committed to localizing our product offering and service culture to tailor to their needs.”Marcus Aw, Managing Director of Travelodge Hotels Asia.
Adding Phuket and Chiang Mai to Bangkok and Pattaya
TLA is also delighted to announce the addition of two new hotels in Thailand, located in the popular
tourist destinations of Phuket and Chiang Mai. This will bring the Group’s portfolio in Thailand to 4
hotels, on top of Travelodge Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 and Travelodge Pattaya. Travelodge Phuket Town
opened its doors on 1 January 2022, and Travelodge Nimman Chiang Mai will open on 1 September
2022.
Travelodge Phuket Town
Phuket is well-known worldwide as an island paradise. Located in the blue waters of the Andaman
Seas, its beautiful beaches, lush jungles and exciting nightlife drew an estimated 10 million foreign
travellers to its shores in 2019. Beyond its natural beauty, Phuket is also a cultural draw, with colourful
shophouses, historical temples and an exciting street food scene. Travelodge Phuket Town is located
right in the heart of the historical city at Phuket Town, just a few steps away from Central Festival
Phuket and with convenient access to shopping centres, attractions and entertainment in the area.
Travelodge Phuket Town has 159 trendy guest rooms featuring neutral tones, contemporary timber
furniture and spaces offering exclusivity and privacy for guests. The hotel facilities include all- day
dining restaurant, a gymnasium and a swimming pool.
Travelodge Nimman Chiang Mai
Located 700km to the North of Bangkok, Chiang Mai is a tourist favorite in Thailand thanks to its misty,
cool climate and a vibrant cultural scene. The city houses more than 30 Buddhist temples and was
once the ancient capital of the country.
Travelodge Nimman Chiang Mai will unveil 406 rooms embracing a sleek contemporary design style,
with ample space and natural light for a calming and serene stay. The hotel also features an all-day
dining restaurant, a modern fully-equipped fitness centre and an outdoor pool. Located in the heart of
Nimmanhaemin Road, the hotel is just minutes away from Chiang Mai’s hippest and trendiest
shopping and entertainment area.
“Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, ranking eight globally in international tourist arrivals. The Thai tourism and hospitality market has always been resilient in the face of adversity, and contributes significantly to the Thai economy. With the addition of Travelodge Phuket Town and Travelodge Nimman Chiang Mai to our properties in Bangkok and Pattaya, we are now in some of the most popular destinations in Thailand. We look forward to an even broader footprint in the Land of Smiles as the market recovers.”
Marcus Aw, Managing Director of Travelodge Hotels Asia.
