The San Francisco, California-headquartered company has also declared its tie-up with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to bring a "seamless first-to-last mile experience with end to end direction".
Uber launched its Public Transport peculiarity in New Delhi. The new feature that is yet to roll out is focused to access riders by offering real-time news for public transport and end-to-end routes directly through the Uber app. The Public Transport trait will be accessible with UberGo, Premier, and Pool ride. Through the Public Transport feature, theUber app will let riders see the quickest and the most affordable routes as well as view real-time schedules and departure time of public transportation, along with metro trains, buses, and walking directions to and from adjacent metro stations and bus stops
DMRC MD Dr. Mangu Singh said that partnering with companies will enable first and last-mile connectivity. He said that DMRC enables 25 Mn trips daily, and users would need a similarly smooth experience outside of the metro. “It has been agreed that Uber will have pick up points at Delhi Metro. Space will be provided for kiosks across 210 metro stations”.
Uber at the beginning will provide price estimates and projected arrival times through the Public Transport highlight. However, since the company has partnered with DMRC, it would over time let riders receive consummate first-to-last mile experience through the Uber app. This means that the riders would get the facility to not just book an Uber cab but also get a metro ticket straight from the Uber app.
Dara Khosrowshahi said, “The results show that we are bringing new users to transit, and ultimately the growth of Uber and we can help all the time to really set the path for the future, and they can be part of the growth for public transit going together and we’re thrilled to be here. First in Asia, in Delhi, we know that we can bring this vision of being this operating system to your daily life together.”
