Hospitality Lexis had a conversation with the Executive Housekeeper Suman Kumar about the housekeeping services in Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel

We have a process in place where all rooms have a ‘privacy sign’ and doorknob for privacy. If guests put on the sign then we don’t disturb at all and if not then post 10 am all rooms get cleaned one by one by knocking on the door thrice and checking with guests if they are present in the room. We start by 10 am considering the fact all guest will wake up by then. If the guest is present in the room then we take their permission before starting the cleaning of the room. If any guest room has the privacy sign on then we do send them a mail so the guests can let us know that they want their rooms to be cleaned or not and also we put DND acknowledgement card on the door so when the guest will come back they can ask for room cleaning if they want. We do this as we know that cleanroom is a basic requirement for a guest.

As a department, we are taking many steps toward sustainability of resources and we maintain area according to that, we have a process like Paper packaging for all dry amenities in rooms, laundry packaging with paper, Biodegradable shower caps, sustainable packaging for slippers, plastic-free minibar items, compostable garbage bags, placing all organic tea supplies.

Also, we have kept a ‘make a green choice program card’ in all the rooms where it is mentioned that if guests put this card on the bed or hanged towels on a rail then we will not change the linen. This will help to save water and detergent which is used to wash that linen. Also, we keep our linen in a safe place in a cool condition so that it will smell fresh and unnecessarily we don’t have to wash them again and again, our team is very well trained to handle it well.

I take every opportunity to thank all my team member for what they do, it’s very important to respect their work and to ensure they are well taken care of. We have a briefing session every day where we discuss their achievements and great work and give appreciation to them in front of the entire team.

Also, we take one training class each day where we teach them all good practices in the department and about their day to day work.

Every month we have departmental meetings and social party where we enjoy and feel relax, we also celebrate all birthdays/anniversaries in the department so that they feel connected to the team. We also have a rap session every quarter where we discuss our future plan and about their goal.

For every good comment which they receive from any guest, we highlight this on all available platform of the hotel and social media so they feel appreciated.
