Western Australia seeking a chance to be promoted in India

The world is noticing the emerging growth of India in tourism and other business sectors. India can become a strong partner for tourism hence the Premier of Western Australia Mark McGowan had discussions with airlines namely Vistara, IndiGo and Qantas to start direct flights to Perth. He came to India for a discussion with companies like tourism, education, mining, airlines and liquefied natural gas.

While addressing the media at The Trident, Mumbai he said,  "With direct air access Perth will be established as the gateway to Australia considering its geographical location on the Western side of the continent." He further informed about their commitment to promoting Western Australia in India and said that they would like to undertake joint marketing activities with airlines.

On the other side, India and Australia have an Open Sky Policy and currently, Air India is the only carrier that operates direct flights to Melbourne and Sydney. A lot of people travel to Australia via Singapore and Malaysia. In 2018, Western Australia recorded a growth of 12% visitors with a count of 30,000 both ways in 150,000 trips.

The Premier's visit assumes significance since Australia is hosting ICC Women's and Men's World Cup 2020. The first match is between India and South Africa at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist promoted Perth as well, "With direct air connectivity to Perth from India, the turnaround time will be one day which will benefit airlines. With Vistara looking at overseas routes and fleet expansion, Perth would be the right opportunity." Cricket commentator and friend of Australia, Harsha Bhogle spoke about his experience of touring Perth and commended its vegetarian food options.
