For the ultimate lovers of whiskey… we’re satiating in a few Whiskey infused cocktails today (Whiskey Sour). The drink is virtually a concoction of whiskey, sugar, lime juice and an optional dash of egg white. The egged adaptation of the drink also recognize as Boston Sour, so know your sour when you’re ordering one!
Wondering why all of a sudden obsessing over Whiskey Sour In the middle of the week? Well, naturally because it’s World Whiskey Day this weekend the 18th of May. Join us on the drinking with these five whiskey sour recipes to celebrate World Whiskey Day.
Classic
1½ ounces (45 ml) whiskey
¾ ounce (22 ml) fresh lemon juice
¾ (22 ml) ounce simple syrup (one part sugar + one part water)
1 cherry
Crushed ice, as required Put all the ingredients in a shaker and shake to mix well. Pour into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry or lemon wedge and Serve.
Apricot
You’ll be amazed to realise just how harmoniously well apricot and whiskey go together! The subtle yet significant taste of apricot adds a fair base to the drink.
2 ounces (90 ml) whiskey
1 ounce (45 ml) apricot preserves
½ ounce (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
1 apricot slice
Crushed ice, as required
Take all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Pour in an old fashioned glass with ice. Enjoy!
Tamarind
Spike your cocktail with a hint of tangy tamarind.
Glass: Double Rocks
Serves: 1
1½ ounces (45 ml) whiskey
1 ounce (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp tamarind paste (mixed with 1 tbsp hot water)
½ ounce (15 ml) Rich Simple Syrup
1 orange slice
1 jarred sour cherry
Crushed ice, as required
Fill a cocktail shaker with all the ingredients (including the ice). Shake well and pour into a glass (with more ice if needed). Garnish with the orange slice and cherry. Serve.
Maple
The Maple Whiskey Sour is a spicier and tad sweeter take on the classic cocktail. The best part? You could totally down this one for breakfast!
2 ounces (90 ml) rye whiskey
½ ounce (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
½ ounce (15 ml) fresh orange juice
¼ ounce (7 ml) maple syrup
¼ ounce (7 ml) Luxardo Amaro Abano liqueur
A strip of orange peel
Crushed ice, as required
Mix all the ingredients in a shaker. Strain and pour into a sour glass. Garnish with orange peel.
Orange
Give your Whiskey Sour the refreshing zest of an orange to turn things up a notch.
Glass: Cobbler
Serves: 1
1½ (45 ml) ounces whiskey
¾ (22 ml) ounce fresh lemon juice
½ (15 ml) ounce simple syrup
1-2 tsp orange juice
1 orange wedge
Crushed ice, as required
Shake all the ingredients well in a cocktail shaker. Strain and pour into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with an orange wedge. Serve
P.S. Despite it’s called a whiskey sour, you can substitute the whiskey in the recipe with Scotch, Bourbon, Irish or Canadian whiskey.
