Sunburn 12 Pune ends on a high!

January 15 2019 – Sunburn, Asia’s biggest dance music festival, concluded its 12th edition on 31st December 2018 with performances by some of the most iconic names in the music industry including some very special NYE performances by the biggest names in the Dance Music domain.

In its 12 year since inception, and its 3rd consecutive year at Pune, Sunburn Festival was held from 29th to 31st December at the Oxford Valley by Shapoorji Pallonji. With over 200,000 fans attending from all parts of the globe and from across India, the festival was a roaring success.

With a theme of “Welcome to Paradise”, the festival hosted one of India’s biggest campsites that gave every camper a comprehensive festival vibe. The artist village reverberated with all sorts of bass-lines was buoyed by the incessant energy of a crowd that offered an outpouring of love, excitement and positivity. The animated flea markets, multiple adventure zones, and lip-smacking gastronomical delights added to the festivity. From appreciating a bird eye’s view of the festival atop the Ferris Wheel and Hot Air Balloon Rides, to regaling in chilly cascades in the Aqua Roller, to pedalling through the festival on the ostentatious Twin Cycle, there was something in store for all festival goers. Adrenaline junkies rejoiced with sundry selections from football-dart games themed “Kick” on a 23 feet heightened Velcro wall, to a clandestine castle of 300 meters with 50 odd obstacles to overcome at “Monster”, to a heady mix of art and games at The Alcohowl Arcade.

The festival featured 4 stages including the main stage, Cubezoid 4.0 which spanned 300 x 100 feet (as tall as a 10 storey building and as wide as the Statue of Liberty horizontally) and had over 7000 sq. ft. of LED. The other stages included the brilliantly LED packed “Zee 5 Stage”, the flea market inspired “Kingfisher Good Times Stage” and the “Little Hearts Stage” by Britannia with immersive visuals surmounting a phenomenal 10,000 sq. ft. of LED special effects. The diversity of the stages and their themes left attendees completely overawed and gave them distinctive experiences within a singular festival venue.

Sunburn also worked on the entire infrastructure development spanning a massive 120 acres of land which included road levelling, parking zones, campsites and venue infrastructure with an aim to offer fans an incredible and experience right from their entry to their exit points. There were 2 Box Offices created viz. the Pre Box-office and the actual box office which enabled speedy entry, swift and holistic security checks and overall convenience for the thousands of fans pouring into the venue. Sunburn employed a massive manpower to convert the 3 acre land into an operative Parking Zone that not only incorporated over 5,000 vehicles but also had a special drive way created for rental car pick and drops. The 4.5 km spine road that led to the main festival area was also levelled and completely barricaded to ensure smooth transportation and road safety for all attendees.

From finding a perfect and picturesque venue, to getting one of the best artist line ups, sound design and engineering, and jaw dropping SFX, the Sunburn Pune festival was the biggest and grandest edition of Sunburn held ever. The main stage also featured 3D fireworks, a first for any music festival in the country. The festival was streamed live exclusively on the Zee 5 app to reach millions of fans across the country.

A total taskforce of over 16,000 personnel including 2,000 Security Guards, 1,000 Police Guards, 210 Medical Staff, 600 personnel for traffic management and over 12,000 people worked on the festival on tasks ranging from production to technical to management. Over 250 CCTV cameras gave a live feed to the Police Control Room thereby ensuring that Sunburn 12 was a safe and drug free event, further re-endorsing Sunburn’s ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against banned substances.

The event was conducted within the directives as laid down by the Narcotics Control Bureau and CDSCO. Ample Security, Medical teams, Quick Response Teams, CCTV camera setups, Police and Fire hazard precautions helped ensure Sunburn 12 was a zero error and mishap free event. As part of Sunburn’s “Leave No Trace” policy, and norms laid down by the Waste Pollution Board and Environment Conservation Board, all measures were taken to ensure sanitization of the venue and orderly disposal of waste during and post the event.

Festival Pune saw a total of 75+ artists, 180 hours of explosive music, both onstage and at the pre and post parties at the After Dark, Miami at JW Marriott, Azzuro, among other venues across Pune.

Sunburn Pune saw a Sponsor integration of more than 18 leading brands with every brand incorporating a unique on-ground concept – Kingfisher Packaged Drinking Water, Skybags, Zee5, Britannia, FastTrack, Spicejet, Magic Moments Music Studio, Bourbon, Little Hearts, Captain Morgan Cola, Havmore, Tinder, JBL, Park Avenue, Airtel 4G, Shein, Go-Pro, Appy Fizz, RedBull and ITC. Airtel also setup a network tower, which offered 4G speed to festival attendees.

Kingfisher, being the Presenting Sponsor, did some engaging installations and a classy ‘Kingfisher World’ Lounge. They also had some interesting and engaging installations like the Kingfisher wings that were attached to the swing which acted as a photo Opp’ with the main Sunburn Stage in the background along with Game of Thrones photo Opp’ at the entrance of the Kingfisher stage. Zee5 had an exclusive platform where fans who couldn’t make it to the festival were able to catch Sunburn live across all 3 days on the Zee5 App. The Zee5 branded hot air balloon also added to the feel and vibe of the festival. FastTrack held multiple innovative and engaging activities of which the FastTrack slide was an all-time fan favourite. The FastTrack zone had a chillout setup for fans to relax and also offered a thrilling VR activity of virtual skydiving, where fans lined up to experience sky diving suspended in a capsule wearing VR headsets. They also had an engaging fun game of human Fussball which was a hit activity with fans. Two brands under the Britannia portfolio were key sponsors at Sunburn, namely Little Hearts and Bourbon. The Little Hearts book on 101 ways to break hearts was launched for the very first time at Sunburn Festival on the Little Hearts stage. Little Hearts had also placed some heart shaped charging stations across the venue which was a blessing for the fans. Bourbon had an activation zone where they held 1 minute games for fans like the Bourbon toss, flip the bottle challenge, and an installed adventurous rock climbing activity zone. Skybags executed multiple fun activities spannin a mechanical bull, energy dance meter, and photo Opp’ areas. They also had a gigantic bag installation which acted as a meeting point for fans and an amazing photo opp’.

Sunburn brought in substantial returns to the local economy and created multiple business opportunities for Pune region through the entire period of the Festival. Consolidating its position as the leading lifestyle brand of the millennial generation, Sunburn Pune contributed massively in both direct revenue to the government as also generated phenomenal business for the region through Hotel accommodation, Transport, F&B and miscellaneous expenses incurred by international and domestic festival audiences. The hotel industry across Pune recorded a massive upswing in occupancy. The transport sector saw considerable business boom with both private and public transport witnessing a huge surge in demand for their services during the period of Sunburn Pune. From F&B stalls en-route to the venue, to vendors selling party props and all types of wares for festival goers everywhere, every piece of land around the Sunburn Pune region boosted business and stimulated the overall economy.
