Police book restaurant for running live band

As part of a city-wide drive, the Ashok Nagar police on Monday raided Times Bar and Restaurant on Residency Road for running a live band. They booked the management under Section 294 (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place).

Sub-Inspector Rahim, who, along with his team, raided the restaurant, said that the management had hired women for live performances. “This is a violation of the permit and guidelines,” a senior police officer said, adding that this was not an isolated case. “Over a hundred bar and restaurants are forcing female staff to perform.”

This drive was started following notices issued by the police commissioner to crack down on bar and restaurants that are violating guidelines.
